Throttle Body upgrade

Hello everyone. I am new here I decided to join to help out a friend who is the owner of an automatic V6 25th anniversary conv. Camaro. Anyway the problem is the thing is slow a little too slow, don't get me wrong it is a bigger engine than my car and I know the V8's are quick but I would like to see what this 6 cyl can do. We started with the basic tune up plugs, wires, cap, rotor fluid changes PCV ect. Then added the basics intake, exhaust, accel coil and lightweight pulleys. The problem I noticed is while cleaning the TB and the manifold I noticed the throttle body was very small about 52 mm which is even smaller than my 2.0 accord. I was thinking of upgrading it with a custom mounted 62 mm BBK civic one that I have lying around. My main questions were what sensor problems will I run into are there some vacume signals I have to worry about and I noticed the pletinum (SP) looks only to have one port so how did you gusy with the custom throttle body controll the fast idle and idle speed in general. All info will be accepted and thanked for as I am usto honda and toyota nothing american without a carb.

The guys with non-stock TBs are all (as far as I know) running custom ones.

i just finished a custom throttle body for my car. it is a 65 mm and will bolt up to the stock plenum. as far as controlling idle speeds and all...i am using the stock sensors so the computer still controls everything like normal.

ok I was curious because on some cars they use multipul ports in the pletnum to controll different idle speeds for hot and cold. Also is there a throttle position sensor or anything I have to worry about and is there is does any one have the vire diagram or specs maybe I can adapt the honda one they are probably similar any way.

Question 2 is it worth it to port out that stock manifold (what kind of gains should I expect.

I checked out your 65 mm tb nice job and good job on that engine. Probably could even take my car. It is nice to know the 3.1 can go NA to that point.

there is a throttle position sensor. also, an idle air control valve. those are the only two sensors on the TB. i don't have any kind of diagram for it but, it should show about .55 volts at idle position and about 4.5 at WOT. i say no on porting out the stock manifold. i cut one open and it is absurd how small they made the port openings...without being able to port them, you won't be able to gain much. that is why i'm also building a completely new plenum/top runners. if i could just get some free time...it wouldn't take too long to get it done.

thanks for the compliments on my tb and motor. its not done yet though... i plan to hit atleast 14.8s N/A before i make any major changes other than the intake and heads.

If you could post a few pics of your TB from a few different sides I would appriecate it that wa I could getr an idea of how you did your custom one.

do you have the equipment to do something like this? a way to get a butterfly cut to fit exactly into the hole? all of the materials? i'll probably have these for sale before too long. also, i honestly would not recommend anything bigger than 62mm on a stock or anywhere near stock motor. i would only go about 58 on stock or mildly built motor. not trying to be a jerk or anything but i spent quite a bit of time to go where few have gone before... there has only been one other company that i or most people on here know of that has made TBs for these motors and they were overseas and no one can get in touch with them anymore...or they atleast don't have the TBs for our cars anymore. they made them 62mm. i have the ability to do about any size (within reason), really.

not to ***** the thread but, how much are you going to let them go for? Once I get off my **** and get a manifold built that will not puddle nitrous at 100 shot, I'm going to want one

Check out my cardomain site . That should be the intake page.
I was going to put more pictures on there today but the site was giving me an error message when I tried to up load pics.
There will be more pictures for the intake when the site glitch gets fixed.
It is for a 75mm tb.
It shows the intake cut up too.

TO ME
The way to make current TB more effective is to increase air into the existing unit.
I gained MUCHO more power just by replacing long blocks to a 3.4 mill.
In the process of doing so I also cleaned out the 2.8 MPFI unit.
TONS OF CARBON built up inside MPFI.
Soaking, using long narrow screwdrivers helped in that mission. No porting was done, just common cleaning & upgrading to the 3.4 injectors at the same time.
I don't feel increasing the size of TB will do much help until the air injested is forced to work harder. The engine I have responds much better to increase in engine size (using the original 2.8 intake assembly) than replacing the TB.
YET Fiero owners will refute that, as in their catalogs, they offer them.
No you CAN NOT use a Fiero TB due to the "movements of mechanism due to throttle cable placement".
I would suggest ya visit a showroom in your area of Cadillac dealers. The new Caddys are running a new version of our 60* mills. See what GM engineers did & "duplicate it".
MOST efficent solution is to increase engine fumes EXITING vehicle. Current exhaust system SUCKS BIG TIME. Proof?
Go open hood, look at exhaust on passenger side down towards ground. See that "T" junction? Can you laugh hard enough?
See my thread up top about the PACESETTER EXHAUST SYSTEM.
IT'S CARB/EPA APPROVED!
Get rid of fumes efficently before ya increase more into engine.

I have done simulations on increased airflow. On an otherwise stock engine, you will be waisting time and money.

highly modded engine, you will gain a few ponies. Seat of pants noticable,

On AM91's engine, it said it was to give about 6 I belive. For the cost of TB's (not bashing you am91) and on a stock engine, you will have better cash/hp ratio by installing cam, or headers.

Shoot me or Redraif a PM when you get a price together. She had been in contact with the guys in Finland about doing one for her, but as said earlier they're not replying. With other mods we're planning to her 3.4, it should be able to take advangtage of a 62mm.
