3.1 Into 15's ?
Hello all. Just recently picked up a 1992 Camaro RS auto. I'm fairly new to the american car scene. I've owned imports all my life. But I've grown tired of having cars with no torque (except for my Mitsubishi Starion TSi). So, I know this subject has probably been beaten to death, but humor me
. The car is in pretty decent condition, threw on a new fuel pump and new spark plug/wires. I'm just wondering what kind of mods am I going to have to look for to try and get it into mid to high 15's? I've got the starion for performance, i'd like to have the Camaro for bracket racing. Now, I know speed doesn't matter for bracket, but, I'd rather not run down the track at a 17.2 ya know? From what I've been reading, DynoMax Exhaust, new cams, underdrive pulley, etc, etc, are all musts for this car. But will these mods alone break me into the 15's? Again, I know most of the LS and LT guys here are probably laughing at me, but, from what I've seen a high 15 would be repsectible for the 3.1. Anyways, any information on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys, and hope to see some of you at the local tracks when they open up!

Dont really worry about the cam yet.I'd recommend
ASP Underdrive Crank Pulley
Dynomax Catback
K&N Filter
Free Mods , Throttle Coolant Bypass , Weight Reduction , AC/Smog Removal.

i don't see you getting too far into the 15s on a stock cam. i would worry about it. i would go with what v8 slayer suggested but add pacesetter headers to that list and a cam. (maybe not the tb coolant bypass up north though)

weight reduction, suspension, convert to stick tranny, 3.73 rear, allteh above intake & exhaust ideas. I'd be very suprised if you weren't in the 15's then.

alright, well at least i've got an idea now. thanks guys, now as for the tranny swap, i'm not sure i'm up to that task. I just don't think that I could do it myself. I have the tools and can easily pick up on my new american engine, but as for tranny swaps, i'm not sure that i'm there yet. unless it isn't all that difficult. have any of you guys done it?

welllll, thats really depending. its going to be a time invested project, meaning when i have a few bucks here and there i'll purchase one piece at a time. the car has over 130,000k on it. And I dont' want to dump all sorts of cash into it and then the engine decides to go. I'd figure around 2 grand, give or take depending on how well the car holds up. i'm not sure if modding it this late in the cars life is a great idea, but, i love the car, so i guess if the engine goes, i'll get to drop a larger one into it

i've been looking around, and it looks like the basic mods I need will put me up around $600. Thats a reasonable price for what I'd like to do. Is $190 for a dynomax catback a decent price? Also, looking into the ASP underdrive pulley, I have yet to install one, and am a little weary about tension of belts. Any help would be appreciated. thanks again for your time guys

Having the manual will put more power to the ground. However an automatic will make it more easy to dial in an exact time. With a manual, holding it an extra 100rpm could make or brake it, etc.
Biggest restrictions on these cars is the y-pipe, engine intake and cam.

im hoping, within a year, to try for 14s N/A. its gonna be tough w/o raising compression though. i think if AM91 can get 15.1 w/ a 3.1, i can hit in the 14s. but thats if my job keeps growing and getting me more $$$$, lol. i think its reachable w/ a 3.4 w/o a whole ton of money though. but itll probably be more like 2 years though, lol. if ya got the money though, good luck!!!

14s n/a is not easy on these motors without a big diet for the car. it is do-able but i have had a tough time getting there. and, i haven't found anybody that's built one of these motors more than i have/plan to. thursday, assuming the weather is good, i should have some new times and they should be in the 14s. this will be with a new project complete...

good luck AM91.
I still wanna see video of you n doward going at it head to head
slayer, the header y-pipe wont work on the manifolds. You can have a shop custom bend you some if you show them the problem, and how you want it done.
Also, crush bends on exhaust suck, mandral all the way baby!!

I think after proper gears, tuneup, and new prom chip. I'll be happy with my engine setup for a while.
I'm about 3/4 done with rear suspension, and really havent even started with the front
