Swap out the engine for a low milage 3.4 block & add the headers & have some fun trying to win races.
Aged engines plus trying to hop them up MANY TIMES may lead to early demise.
But fear not as those already bought "hop up parts" will swap right over to a 3.4 installation.
Latest great used low milage 3.4 score was a 40,000 mile long block for only $650!
Can't beat that
HP gain Plus Torque gain PLUS not having to really "try hard" to increase to your desired power requirements, cause it's already"done". Pretty much Open hood, remove old engine, install new engine, close hood. That "simple" an engine swap. I've done it twice. So have over 100 swappers by now, too.
It's a great alternative for real power gains....
Nothing beat cubic inches.

Yes
AND NOT SURE by what ya mean of "PSM"
But ya use the original engine induction/igition system slip 3.4 injectors (bought with engine) into the orig engine fuel rail, all original vehicle sensors & yes, it all works cause ya only reusing what was there!
Help?
Seek out my
2.8-3.4 Long Block Swap Boogie thread and so many details offered for your help.
It is a wise option.

hey gridley welcome to the boards. like i said start with a good tune up. platnum plugs, accel 8.8mm wires and a good cap and rotor. another idea would be to get a higher voltage coil like an accel or msd. many options there. also like they said above headers. pacesetter makes a set for our cars. it comes with a y pipe that bolts to the stock exhaust. a custom cold air intake will also help. give it some time we can have that 2.8 really flying

Hi, short of opening up the engine, these are things you can do to the motor to get more power, in the order of simplicity (and cost):
1 - Tune-Up
2 - Synthetic Motor Oil
3 - K&N Air Filter
4 - Accel Super Coil
5 - Replace your factory catalytic converter with a hi-flow one before you replace any of the rest of your exhaust. It makes almost as much of a difference as headers do.
6 - Performance Muffler
7 - Underdrive Pulleys
8 - Headers (do they make them for the 3rd gen V6?)
9 - Port-Matching of all the intake pieces (will net you about 10 horsepower, seriously... anyone disagree?? shoot me an e-mail)
10 - 1.52:1 or 1.6:1 roller rockers
11 - Better rear gears
12 - lighter flywheel
13 - larger throttle body
14 - high performance cam from Crane or Comp Cams.
15 - At this point, you may want to consider 17lb Accel Injectors and an adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator.
You'll be putting out about ~185 horsepower at this point, but about ~200 ft-lbs of torque. In your third gen, that'll be good for low 15s.
You can't really do much after that unless you strap on a supercharger or go to larger displacement.
If you want to keep your motor, you can swap in 3.1 parts (crank and pistons), or you can opt for a 3.4 from the 93-95 Camaro / Firebird. (Direct swap... no fuss...)

Re: modifying my 2.8
Yes. ALL the V6/60 motors in the Camaro / Firebird are "Generation 1" V6/60s. They all have the exact same bolt holes and bolt locations, so long as they all came from longitudinally mounted cars. So... if you're taking a 3.4 from a 4th Gen Camaro / Firebird, it'll drop RIGHT into the 82+ Third Gen Camaro or Firebird with the 2.8 or 3.1 engine in it. It is literally that easy of a swap.
I mean, EVERYTHING swaps over.
Ideally though, when you do this... you'll want to use everything from the older 3rd gen, except... keep the injectors from the 4th gen, to ensure that you have the requisite flow. This is the cheap and easy way to do it, and have it run well.
