TTA/buick 3.8 tranny options

what transmissions were available on pontiac TTAs and buick 3.8Lturbocharged engines? what treansmissions will fit them? i know th TTA came with a four speed aout, but i have heard that 500 came with standard transsmissions as well.

will v8 standard T5s meet up. the 3.8 is a 90* engine so i know our 60* t5s will not, that was covered in epic detail recently

was there ever a six speed transmission made that will fit?
(t56 right?)

the drivelines from v8s and v6s are interchangeable right?

when i start moving toward this swap i want to have brakes done well before i get the engine in. so i might go to a limited slip 3rd or 4th gen rear (witch would probably come from an 8) when i switch over to whatever brakes i decide to go with. (will need to clear stock 15"s) so maby LS1 brakes or that other bigger brake people always do

still in early planning stages here in cas y'all can't tell. any help would be apreciated. i wan't to get this all laid out with a timeline and budget before i ever pick anything up. i have learned a valuble lesson from watching my brother turn a $2k two week swap into a $4k three month swap. don't want to go down that road

TT/A's used the TH2004-R.

Think B-O-P bolt pattern. all TT/A's came w/autos from factory.

I know UMI makes an brand X brake conversion, but will not clear 15's. I think it needs 17's are needed. http://dayton-fbody.com/DFBAbb/viewtopic.php?t=680

As said all TTA's from the factory came with the 2004-R, Pontiac did make and experimental one with aZF-6 speed . 700R4 and TH400 have been put behind them as well.

so a v8 t5 or t56 fould fit as well, since they have the same bolt pattern as the v8 autos... right?

Oddest thing, a 2.2L has the same bolt pattern as the 3.8L

are you implying that any tranny from any buick tranny will mate to any pontiac engine? i don't think you are. but i can't figure out what you are trying to say

or do you mran any v6 tranny will mate to any v6 engine.

talking vee-ates here, back in the day, Buick,Olds, & Poncho's had the same bell housing bolt pattern (majority of the v8's). Chebby had their own, and not quite sure what caddy had. But yo could take a tranny from a cutlass & bolt it to a poncho block no problem.

example b: http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...0559&langId=-1

^^ damn, $750 for an indestructable TH 400

No it's a Chevy engine, well there all really chevy engines.

It's the 2.2L engine found in RWD S Trucks. I happend to be doing a clutch in one the other day and laid the trans down next to a 3.8 I was doing an engine in, same pattern.

there is no pontiac t56, it's all chebby.
this might help some http://transam.luminasweden.com/drive_line/T56.html

starter on BOP engines is opposite of chebby too.

There are aftermarket 6sp trannies you cain get alongw/the correct bellhousing,
but going off this...http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...0561&langId=-1

get a BOP bellhousing & bolt up. HOWEVER, most of those are setup for mechanical linkage.

I was just gonna say, get a B-O-P bell housing and see if the gear box still bolts up...
probly would...

i am in over my head here

bellhousing is the thing that bolts to the engine and shield the flywheel from things, tranny mounts to it. correct?

mechanical linkage? is that how my stick shifts the transmission?

sorry to be so uneducated at this stuff. my dad only showed me how to replace starters and things "you will need to know someday" not stuff i wqant to know someday.

to chevy bellhousings mount to bop engines?

looked at that first site. damn. thats the kind of work i do not want to do. i am a sucky wealder.

so they make a b o p T5 right? i think i'll get one of those

T-10 is a 4sp

you're thinking powerglide.

I had the t-10 in my 77 T/A.

Why do you want the Tubo V6 Motor?

I used to own one... #1053... rebuilt here froma salvaged Title.

They are correct abotu the BOP Housing, but this was pre-Corprate motors.

You dont want to run a 6-speed with this motor unless you are going for High Speed runs. There was a reason GM used exclusively Automatics... and forget a T5.... the motor in stock form will blow it to pieces in no time.
