v6: market demand: fix collision damage versus buy v8

1991 v6. 110,000 miles. I was a dumb-***, made bad left turn and got hit on the pasenger side. car was right in the middle. no damage to wheels NOR axles NOR drive-train. damage is passenger door and rear quarter panel. car will need a little frame pulling, so passenger door and rear hatch dont rub up against quarter panel. Car still drives fairly good. I be could very happy with fixing the damage and driving it another 2 to 3 years. (or more?) QUESTION is this: Is v6 camaro a piece of crap that is not worth a body ship bill? is the market demand and market prices for 1991 V6 camaros in the ****-can? LEts say the body shop bill comes to $2500. I'll have money to cover it in december or january. BUT: on a lot today was a cherry red V8 in beautiful shape, with power options. A friend of mine says the v8s are worth less as gas prices go up. The v8 power would be nice. then theres the power options. My v76 is manual windows, manual locks. I like manual windows. power windows break. And a cherry red paint-job might start fading and rusting. (I dont havea garage.) so I ask you: spend the cash on a nice V8 camaro? or spend the cash on a body shop repair of my door and rear quarter panel area?

sure, I could be happy fixing and keeping my car. Its in decent shape, relatively. people look at it and think "nice car."*before the damage occurred.) Extra power: V8 power has its good points, but I notice much better performance when I get the high octane gas!! how about you? you notice better performance from high octane gas? but question is: market value! do V6 camaros have crappy market values? if the 1991 Camaros ever become collectible, will V6 engine camaros ever have their respectable place in the hierarchy of classic cars? maybe some-day a v8 camaro from 1991 will be worth $30,000!! I would expect then that a V-6 would have an element of collectible value as well. but the PRESENT day reality: 16 year old camaros have ambiuguous value. is it worth it to fix my V6 body damage? if the body work is done great, then is a decent v6 1991 camaro worth a $2500 to $2800? or does a 16 year old v6 have only junker value? granted your question is a good one: the one asking how many miles on that v-8 I saw on a used car lot today. maybe

Hawk's Thirdgen (see add at top of page) has a '91 Z28 350TPI for sale for $2500, so as you can see these cars can still be had for pretty cheap. V6 cars are usually even cheaper, thats how I'd go.

which is less; fixng v6 back up or getting v8 car.

which will have a lower insurance premium, and which car would you trust more?

it's still going to be your call.

i had to look into that same question,

After frame pulling, core support replacement, Replace a part of the subframe that was rusted through to previous owner syndrome, and a new fender and hood, i was looking well into the 5k+ range to fix the v6 (of mine)

And as you can now see, im rolling in a 2004 Frontier... Much better investment (even though it cost me a good 13K)

I looked at Hawks website. I really didnt see any z28 on there for $2500. I didnt see too many cars on there. The good cars on that website seem to be going for some serious money. and then there were the "parting out" cars which have whatever problems they have. FYI: there's a website called INTELLCHOICE.com that claims a V6 1991 camaro with 110000 miles is $1400 wholesale value, $2900 retail value.

car values

I looked at hawks website, and I didnt see any cheap v8 camaros, unless you're talking about a "parting out" car. I bought a local used car guide. And it seems the matter of car value is a very ambiguous thing. The dealers who deal in used cars, are buying at rock bottom prices: cars that sell at the wholesale auctions at low prices; or dealers have deals worked out with new car dealerships where they buy 100 trade-ins a month, at some ludicrously low per-unit price. I think we're looking at a car market where the private party sales are often higher than dealer retail prices, because some of the dealers buy so low to begin with, and then blow them off the lot at cheap retail prices. as for my camaro V6, consumerguide, and INTELLICHOICE.com both say the 1991 camaro has wholesale value of around $1400. intellichoice.com says retail for a v6 1991 is $2900.

v6 power

There are so many v8's on the road I rather stick with my v6, fix it up and turbo charge it or whatever has to be done to it to compete with v8's and plus you save a lot in gas, you can take it anywhere without having to worry about gas prices if the car is reliable of course, I would rather fix that v6 and add some performance and you will feel good knowing you got a v6 that aint no joke, does anyone know what can be added to a v6 without loosing any mpg or is most everything fair game?

it depends on how much u spent so far..
if u'd invested 10k or more another 2,500, I think I would pay
but its up to u.

as of now I only own a v6 as daily driver,
but I will get a v8(383 or something hopefully) in the future just for
fun in the weekend.

if ur v6 was a daily driver and u commute or drive alot,
buying a v8 isnt a best choice for daily driving..

but again, thtas all my 2cents
