vibrating 2.8
I have a 93 2.8 5 speed, this is a S-10 but i figure yall could help me out.
The motor was locked up in this truck and I found another truck with a good motor but bad body.
So i swaped the egine from it in this truck. it was also a 93 2.8 5 speed.
I have cheacked for intake leak (new intake gasket) checked timing, checked spark on all cylinder, checked all vacume lines, and has new plugs in it.
The truck runs good, but it has a horrible shake to it.
Could the ballancer be bad?
any suggestions will help!!
also would like to add that this shake hapens all the time, it is most noticeable at lower RPMS's. clutch in or out, any gear, moving or parked its there.
thanks

Re: vibrating 2.8
i had the same promblem it turned out to be the flywheel in 88 they changed it from a weighted to a internally balneced but i found out that my 88 was drilled all on one side so it had more weight on the opposite side swapped the flywheel and everything was fine so if u got an earlier flywheel with ur engine then i.e. b4 88 or in my case my 88 was off to one side so it's quite possibly ur flywheel. If anyone knows anything else i would like to know also.

god i hope not the truck I pulled the engine from did have the trans and engine removed before.....
Will this cause any problems? i would assume it wouldnt be good for the bearings.

Re: vibrating 2.8
well i'm pretty sure the last guy who had my old engine had the wrong flywheel on it and it did throw a bearing, spun a rod and snapped the connecting rod in two. But this guy drove for like 2 and a half hours like that vibrating.
i'm lucky my dash is still in one piece. I could see nothing but bad news with that problem.
Are u sure the engine is a 93 that u got?
did ur old engine have the vibration also?
Do u remeber if ur flywheel was weighted, drilled or drilled alot on one side and not the other?
If it was automatic do u still have the flex plate? (u could get it balenced the same)

You need to find out the CORRECT year of your engine and then put the right balancer on it. They made a transition from externally to internally balanced.

Re: vibrating 2.8
ok, well I removed the flywheel, I ran the numbers on it and it is the correct one!!!
Could the vibration dampner go bad?
I am just lost on this now.

Re: vibrating 2.8
is there holes in it or does it have the weight on it or does is have aloty of holes on oneside and hardly any on the other sides. If u know anyone with a balencing cone it's just a cone on a dowl u could stick it on that for like 2 seconds and see if it spins alright. Ur motor mounts are in good condition or attached right cause if not that could also vibrate.

Re: vibrating 2.8
yea everything is in right. motor mounts are fine.
maybe its a missfire that i can fine.
I just dont know what it fells like when a vibration dampner goes out and am wondering if that could be it. the whole truck just shakes at IDLE and once it gets around 4000rpm-5000rpm
can a vibration dampner / harmonic ballancer go bad?

Re: vibrating 2.8
well I have replaced the ballancer. It didnt help any....
So I go to check the oil and........... THERE IS WATER IN THE OIL.
I had just checked compresion and all plugs were dry and all cylinders had 140-150psi
Is there a trick to replacing the intake gaskets? I replaced it before I put the motor in.
Also on the felpro gaskets, there is a tab that goes under the push rods that says DO NOT CUT, well you have to cut it unless you want to removed all the rocker arms and pushrods. I cut them and thought I had it all ligned up?? Is there a way around this?
thanks I hate being so stupid I am just dont know much about these 60 deg engines.

i heard it was just recomended not to cut the tab on the intake but i had my pusrods and rockers out anyways so i didn't have to cut mine.
did u inspect ur flywheel at all?

Re: vibrating 2.8
yes i pulled the trans back out and searched the numbers. It came back as the coreect unballanced flywheel.
The thing is I have sprayed all around the intake and every vacume line and havent found a leak. SO I dont even know if changing the intake gasket is gonan fix the vibbration. I checked the motor mounts and they seem to be holding up ok.

Re: vibrating 2.8
I posted a question about the gaskets and most people said it was ok to cut as long as you line it up well.
But out of curiosity, how did the engine run from the donor truck? Did it run well or were you just told that it runs?

Re: vibrating 2.8
actually the fdonor truck didnt run, the fuel pump was not working in it.
The only thing I can think of now is a warped crankshaft.
Could the flywheel be warped?

Re: vibrating 2.8
id go and change the flywheel. Might as well try eh? Since it sounds a lot cheper trying that rather than the crankshaft thing anyway lol
