You need to buy a new ignition key lock set that comes with a VATS bypass resistor installed. You can get them from any auto parts store.

I believe there are a few other postings about VATS bypass around here as well that may help if you search...

Re: 91 3.1 FIREBIRD wont stay running

problem with that is that there is 15 different resistance ranges, so I might get lucky and get the right one, if not, I will have to take it to the dealer for them to reprogram my computer, to fit the new resistor in the key.....

look for a steering column with the vats keys included and the pass box. You can look in the classified section some one has one.

Re: 91 3.1 FIREBIRD wont stay running

sure will. The Vats box is located behind the heater box under the dash PITA to get to. Will havde to be from a 1990-92 firebird or camaro

Re: 91 3.1 FIREBIRD wont stay running

Or you can bypass the VATS. There are instructions if you search about taking resistance readings and then putting a resistor to the VATS module wiring so that it doesn't matter anymore...

Re: 91 3.1 FIREBIRD wont stay running

Yeah, I guess I could try the resistor thing again, do you know which one of the wires from the ignition cylinder I need to run the resistor inline with? Thats the part that got me stuck....I really wanna get the 50-60 Hz generator and replace the Vats Box....or just replace the vats box with another one and some keys to go with it....Thanks for all the help and advice guys, if you got anything else, I would be willing to try it.
