v8 transmission on to a 60* engine 2.8

Possible? I have at least 2 700r4's with the 90* bell housing and was wondering if I could save myself the trouble of finding a 60* 700r4. I am assuming it would be easier not to convert but im thinking that having a v8 one on there would just be better. I am thinking there must be a kit or at least a guide somewhere. I tried the search and i know this has to come up often so dont get mad if this is one of those topics that come up once a week.

Also with everyone switching to v8 there has to be a good 700r4 in my area. So if someone has a 60* tranny in the Chicago area PM me!!!!!

They won't bolt up. The bellhousing patterns are different and I am not sure about the input shaft. Other than that they are the same tranny.

You can gut the housings and swap the good guts into your V6 housing. That's really all you can do. I have not come across any adapter that allows Chevy rear drive bellhousings to bolt to GM Metric engine patterns....

There are lots of companies who make adapters, they're rather simple. It's a 1" AL plate with threaded holes

youll also wanna evaluate the gearing between the two transmissions. i know between the v6 and v8 manual theyre different. if they are different, decide which one will better suite your driving habits.

sorry i was very unclear by what i meant. the manual v6 and the manual v8 have different gearing. is there anything different between the v6 and the v8 automatics internally.... ei. clutches, planetaries, valve body pressures... etc? im not too familiar w/ autos

Re: v8 transmission on to a 60* engine 2.8

i've got 2 60deg 700's in my garage. one came out of my firebird, but it seemed to slip a little first thing in the morning the first time you put it in drive on cold days. after that it was fine. that may just indicate a dirty filter or something, but i had a rebuilt tranny from my old car, so it rendered the question moot... i have another one that came w/ a '91 3.1 and i just didn't need it so it's just sitting there. i was told it worked but can't vouch for it personally... i got it from denny (LFN AT U) if that adds any credibility to that. lmk if you're interested at all. i don't know if you need something that works or just to get by or to have rebuilt to minimize downtime...

Speedway Motors ( http://www.speedwaymotors.com/ ) makes an adapter to put a Chevy pattern TH350 on a 2.5/2.8 block. I think it would work for the 700r4 as well.

http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/3280...to-TH-350.html

Part number 91628908, price $39.99.

Re: v8 transmission on to a 60* engine 2.8

Unfortunately the bell housing is cast to the case. :/ To change it you would have to rebuild the transmission. so you could take a work 700r4 and try to switch the guts but your taking a risk. I emailed speedwaymotors and they said the th350 kit isnt the same or wont work. I really cant believe no one has done this.
