I Need To Chirp Second!

Hey all. I've got a 92 3.1 140k-ish miles stock rearend and a firm shifting, newly rebuilt 700r4. It's got a super clean TB and Upper and Lower Plenum. Stock air intake setup...

...and I wanna chirp second

I wouldn't be willing to spend more than 250 bux, and I won't be doing anything too complicated or drastic.

If a rear end would be the thing, I need to know if I can just swap out the internals (ie ring and pinion) or If theres more to it. I would love to make my rear a posi or lsd 3.73's.

Would it be that easy or would I need a new rear-end as a whole?

Soon I will have a poly trans mount, and am more than willing to do a CAI setup.

I will also probably be running a more free-flowing muffler (prolly glasspack) within the month.

I would also be willing to get my Torque Convertor Re-Stalled higher. Would that help me acheiving this in any way?

Any better suggestions are appreciated, and I would love to know of your auto 3.1/2.8's that can do this and what your setup is...

*BRIBE* If anyone posts the winning solution I promise to post a video. lol

Re: I Need To Chirp Second!

Ya Ya, just shove it in my face. How bout' this.

I can drive, talk on the phone, order a burger only mustard, smoke a cigarette, and drink a coke all at the same time.

...But of course I wouldn't do something so unsafe.

...If you do pass by seeing me doing that, then you will know I am the best.
Just don't wave. Last time someone waved at me when I was doing that... well, it wasn't good. lol

Anyone else?

Re: I Need To Chirp Second!

Paying to have ring and gears installed cost WAY more then 250. Plus the parts.... your almost talking about 1g.

Trans mount is good.
Do the homemade CAI
Installing just a muffler wont net you anything but sound. Its mostly in the bends before the muffler.

You could possibly do some crank pullys.
If your up for a project, burn your own chips.. but getting into that will cost you around 250 or a bit more.

Re: I Need To Chirp Second!

It means that your rear tires ... or tire (singluar) in most V6 cases due to peg-leg open differential ... "chirp" or "bark" on the asphalt when you hit a hard 2nd gear. It's just like spinning from a dead stop in 1st gear, but in this case, you are rolling (usually at a pretty good clip), so of course your velocity doesn't want to let you spin. It takes a good bit of torque and a hard tranny shift to make your tires bark 2nd gear. The manual tranny guys can do it by dumping the clutch and stomping the gas. Us auto-craptastic drivers don't have that luxury (even though it's hard on their tranny's).

My advice is a modified Transgo shift kit from TGO member Dana for your 700r4. They can be picked up for around $100-150. Google "Pro Built Automatics".

Of course, if you really want to lay some rubber when you hit 2nd, ditch that slow-a$$ 6-banger and put in a real engine. (I bet you guys get that 1,000,000,000 times a day on the V6 board LOL!)

Re: I Need To Chirp Second!

Shift kit. Nuff said. If that isnt enough, well youre going to have to start adding power.

As for gears, you're better off changing the whole rear. I bought a LS1 rear with axles, Eaton, 3.73's, diff cover, complete with LS1 disc brakes for $600 from a guy going to a 9". I bought a 2.8 axle with 3.42 open diff with drum brakes for $50. If you do a posi, all youre doing is making it harder to reach your goal of chirping second. Instead of getting 1 tire to break loose, you need 2 to break loose.

A 7.5" 10-bolt is WAY more than strong enough to hold what you want to do. While I think theyre weak as hell, the 10 bolt in my 358" is holding.

Re: I Need To Chirp Second!

shiftkit set on competition mode, willchirp second possibly 3rd witht he v6,but u really dont want that, besides making it upshift fast and hard,it will also downshift fast and hard. generally this isnt a problem, but when u drive on a wet road it can lock the back tires for a second when it downshifts, and ur more liable tostart spinning when itupshifts on wet roads as well.

Get skinnier (not so wider) tire(s) in the rear.

Re: I Need To Chirp Second!

when i rebuilt the trans, had a corvette servo, and a left over trans go kit that the shop had lying around (I explained i wanted a hard shift, and they delivered). Car is in terrible tune right now, but will still hold enough line pressure to break the rearend loose when going from 1st to 2nd, not enough for a third gear chirp. My whole rebuild was around 700 bux, im sure the vette servo and install can't cost "THAT MUCH", but, i don't know if it'd be at your $250 limit.....

Also, you'll start busting transmission mounts once you get it done, and then you get the "clunk clunk clunk" as you step on the gas pedal, lol, went through my fair share of those damned things.

Re: I Need To Chirp Second!

Take a look at this. What you're looking to do is easiest via trans mods. Everything besides the tv mod should help you chirp 'em. Also check out patc (raptor's) website.

Re: I Need To Chirp Second!

Yeah, I recently got my Tranny rebuilt and said it'd be coming right back if it doesn't shift hard. Well it shifts pretty firm now.

And broken tranny mounts? Trust me I know. Looked under it Friday afternoon, and it is ripped in half. Knew it was. I'll be getting a poly mount this coming week though.

I'll be getting a seafoam treatment, changed oil and filter, and a 2" or 2 1/4" Glasspack to boot.

I've been wanting to go with the TransGo full shift kit for a while now. If I do I'll do the Vette servo at the same time. I figure by then, it'll be breaking loose.

I wanted a 250$ limit, just to keep my mindset of spending money a little lower. Not saying I wont go 2.5x over it.

After this small project, and my next one (making the motor more reliable and effecient, and a 2000rpm stall) I'll be going LSD 3.73's, Spohn Subframe Connectors, and an MSD Ignition system.

Truth is, I figured that by being able to chirp even second would give me a current point of peformance, better than your regular seat-of-the-pants dyno.
