I read this the other day. Another dumb move by GM. I was also hoping the base V6 in the camaro would be a 3500. This would make hybrid swaps for 3/4 gens really easy.

Re: RIP 3800V6
about time!
Sorry but the direct injected 3.6L DOHC is so far superior its not even funny. 304hp to 200.....umm yeah.
It had its time and place but those have long since past. Time to move on

Re: RIP 3800V6
granted the 3.6 is an advanced engine, but it dosent come close to matching the mileage the 3.8 can get. I think as well the 3.5 should be the base V6 and the 3.6 should be a midrange v6 (optional on the RS package perhaps.) then have the V8. I totaly want to make a turbo 3.8 for my bird some day. (for now I'm stickin with a 60* though.

we'll see about that (mileage)....6 speed auto VS 4 speed should play a big factor in that.
Too early to say...
And 3700lbs with that lame duck 3500 V6? UGH

Re: RIP 3800V6
A 3800 in a 2003 LeSabre will get better mileage than a 3100 in a 2003 Century. And the LeSabre is a bigger car. The 3800 is the small block Chevy of the V6 world. I think that if they stuffed the technology of the V8 into this six, it will make more power. Also, a pushrod motor is cheaper to maintain, and easier to repair. I also read some where that Ford's next V8 will be a push rod design. Gee, how surprising. I have always wanted to swap in a motor that is the size/weight of a BOSS 429 with 150 LESS cubic inches. Just my last .02.

Re: RIP 3800V6
fueleconomy.gov even under the new testing estimates the old 3800 gets 1 mpg better highway. My 92 Lesabre would get 30 on the highway an day and 20 or so in the city. The 3.5 V6 malibu blows the 3.6 version away on the MPG front and its doing it with 2 less gears. going from 4 to 6 gears has not made that much of an improvement from what I've seen.GM shoud have made a smaller version of he 3.6 for use here in the states. a 3.0 or 2.8 maybe. To their credit I belive they are actually making the 3.0 for use in some new cars.
