Anyone on here running 4th gen headers?
A couple of guys and I are looking for some info on headers, specifically the older PaceSetters that were made exclusively for the 3.4 in the 4th gen as they are used in the 3rd gen. Anyone on here have a set that can tell us how they were modified to work in our cars? I'm looking for info on a similar set of headers, but not too many people have heard of them. Since the PaceSetters were used first before PFE came out with the 2.8/3.1 versions, I was thinking that someone on here would know how to modify the 4th gen headers to work in our cars.

What would need to be modified? my 2.8 and my 3.4 manifolds are basically the same. Or are you refering to the longtubes?

I wanna say it was KED85 that had a whole thread on his car being used as the test car for fabbing up headers for our cars a while back. there were pics of the fabbed headers used, it showed some pics of different pieces that were welded in to make the 4th gens fit into our cars. not sure if that helps you at all, but i do remember a thread on it and seeing pics

Search my old threads that I started, I'm one of very few that bought those headers and prob the only with stainless. They made them before pacesetter produced them for third gens

Re: Anyone on here running 4th gen headers?
I'll see what I can find if anything, I suppose.
:edit: Searched... Went through every one of KED85's posts I could find and found no pics. Several threads had links to sites that don't exist anymore. I was hoping for pics of how those who have the 4th gen headers on the 3rd gen engine have them altered. Also found a thread referring to S10 headers and their use, but no info more than that. There was a couple threads referring to an older thread that is no longer in the system as well.

Searched your topics and found a dead link (where the pics apparently are, deadbird.org or something) and a set of FWD headers.

I seem to have tracked down a number to a Performance Fabrication & Engineering (PF&E): 586-949-3400
I think Pillsbry10 has had dealings with them. They may have what we're looking for. I think there have been some problems with these guys, though.
Also, I'm not sure if they've every done a set of 3.4/3x00 hybrid motor headers. Since they are in Michigan, I may allow my car to be a test-subject...

Re: Anyone on here running 4th gen headers?
Pillsbry, what is the size of the primaries on those headers? We're looking for around 1 3/4".
I saw another TGO member's CarDomain page and she has/had the PF&E headers. Space is tight, and the y-pipe is quite odd, to say the least. Although I'm not interested in a y-pipe... I've had way too much difficulty over time with the thing. I have something cooking in my head that could be interesting. I'll have to see if I can find a different set of headers, say, from an S10 (read in another thread last night that those may fit except for the fact I have a T5), which would be right along the lines of what I'm looking for, provided I can find the right primaries.

Re: Anyone on here running 4th gen headers?
That number is OLD, and I doubt it still works. I did find another number for them, but I lost the link and still can't find it again. I hope to track it down...sometime. Anyways, I'd be happy with 1-5/8" primaries for some better velocity to my remote-mount turbo, but I can't do 1-1/2" with those exhaust ports on the 3x00 heads. The search continues...

Re: Anyone on here running 4th gen headers?
1 5/8" at the bare minimum, not counting porting the heads... Which is why we're looking for pics of anyone having modified the 3.4 PaceSetter 4th gen headers to see what might have to be done with a set of the RKSport headers that have the 1 3/4" primaries.

Re: Anyone on here running 4th gen headers?
Yeah, I'd love to find out what has to be done to those RKSport headers to make them work on 3x00 cylinder heads. Hopefully, not much...
Re: Anyone on here running 4th gen headers?
From what I have read, one side works without modding- the other side, you have to put in a vise, heat it up and bend it to clear the firewall I think. Then have a new Y pipe fabbed. But they do bolt up to the heads OK, since the 2.8/3.1/3.4 heads are all the same. I am just going to go with some 2.8 pacesetters on my 3.1 and have the smog crap fabbed up to fit. Stupid Kulifornia!!

Re: Anyone on here running 4th gen headers?
POSSIBILITY: Does anyone have a set of 3.4L V6 (NOT 3400 V6) cylinder heads sitting around? If someone does, and doesn't mind spending $20 bucks, go to Auto Zone and buy a set of 3400 V6 (NOT 3.4L V6) exhaust manifold gaskets, PN MS95586. Then, whomever can just place them on the cylinder head and check clearances. Just a thought...

Guess one of us is going to have to get a set and find out which one needs to be squished.
The y-pipe is a non-issue for me at this point. However, getting my quarter panel replaced IS...

Re: Anyone on here running 4th gen headers?
We already knew that the bolts on the 3x00 heads and the bolt-holes on the RKSport 3.4L headers wouldn't line up, right? The main question is whether or not the primaries of the RKSport headers will line up with a set of 3x00 heads, isn't it? Bending and re-aligning the pipe AFTER the collector doesn't bother me one bit. Neither does slotting bolt-holes on the header flange bother me. Trying to see if these headers will fit on the 3x00 heads without modifying the primaries and flange is my question.

Oh, okay, my bad. I didn't have all of the facts before I opened my mouth...it happens...ONCE IN A WHILE.
I was hoping for some more input and info on this as well...

Yep... Modernizing something that's 23+ years old is a pain and not easy. Looks like I might have to find a welder... As if the torch wasn't going to be bad enough.
