hi, is the car running ok ? the cannisters do get old and perished, took me a while to work out why i was doing just 10mpg, same prob as you. i have removed mine and blocked the pipe fom the tank. not sure if you will get away with that where you are, but basically you need a new one !

Seems to me like something must be hooked up wrong ,especially since it just got a new fuel pump.

Re: charcoal cannister problem HELP!!!!!!
Id say the return line n vent line got mixed up, the return line will siphone gas from the tank, I know when doing my SFC I broke it and it would not stop coming out. Plus those 2 lines are the same size.

Re: charcoal cannister problem HELP!!!!!!
Read your post in the Tech forum, and several things come to mind:
1. If they aren't crumbling to pieces, PUT THE HARD LINES BACK IN!!! This is a SAFETY issue, and could cause you to fail inspection if the guy at the shop wants to be a real jerk.
2. The EVAP line comes from the passenger's side and crosses over to the driver's side at some point (have to look it up). That's how you can tell which one is which. And it also doesn't have the screw fitting on the end for the pressurized fuel fitting at the engine.
3. You'll want to go to a junkyard and get another can... Yours is now junk. They don't like being pumped full of gas.
4. The 4th line coming off of the fuel tank runs to the white pressure control valve by the driver's side rear wheel.
5. The brake lines will be covered in a spring-like material. Don't mix those up with anything (not that you really can as they are 3/16"), and DON'T use rubber hose on them or you won't be able to stop.

Long as its fuel injection rated hose it don't matter if its rubber.
AZ sells the goodyear brand rubber fuel injection hose, stamped right on it.

One rock hits that crap, and there's a fuel leak... As was said in the post in the Tech/General forum. Steel lines won't do that unless they're seriously rusty. Also, the rubber hose won't fit in the factory brackets, so I'd guess he used zip ties (another not good).

Re: charcoal cannister problem HELP!!!!!!
I can't see a rock hitting the hose and doing anything, he would have to be off roading and draggin the bottom on a rock and then it would take allot to work its way through, and a steel line would get dented shut with the same pressure needed.
Its not some paper thin hose that a pebble on the freeway is gonna jump up into and split it wide open.......
