Gas Mileage

What kind of gas mileage is everyone getting? I'm thinking that mine seems a little low. I guess I have a bad 02 sensor, or maybe a heavy foot. I'm getting around 22 highway, and 14 city.

yeah, i've been known to get around 14 mpg city.probably caused by my lead foot combined with a BILLION cars causing traffic in L.A. highway, usually 22 mpg, although i've gotten 25 before.

On a smooth, nothing-but-highway cruise, I can get almost 27MPG. Around town and with a bit of highway, I normally get about 22-23 combined.

NOW though, because I have to defrost my car every morning for 5 min or so, and because of the severe drop in air temp, I'm lucky to get 17.5-18. ARGH

Ok, so i'm not getting too bad. Why is it that temperature affects mileage? I'm sorry if it's a stupid question, it's just one that I dont' know the answer to.

If I remember correctly, its because when the engine is colder, the car runs richer. Cool dense air aids this as well.

Thats why you may notice your car pulls harder when its cool out. Being down in TX you may not notice it as much, but I can attest to there being a different once winter hits in MA!! Before I put my snows on for the winter, I gave it one good yank from a stop and I was shocked how much rubber I got! Some of it was from a couple of mods, but I'll bet some had to do with the 23 degree air that night

It's around 27degrees down here right now. Funny, yesterday I remember being 72. Tx weather is so funny, we can never predict it. I've been going around in shorts till today....but it'll warm back up. I guess that's good, because I'm not a cold weather person...well...unless I have a girl by my side.

Damn, I get 24-25 mpg on the highway, and I have a 350! Maybe those V6s aren't quite as economical as they should be.

In pure city driving, I get around 16-17 mpg, but most of my driving is on the highway.

I hear ya Glenn, my 87 305 formula used to get 18/21 and my 85 2.8 SE gets 11/13.

I think its due to the fact that its harder for the little 2.8 to move that heavy @ss body. Its definitely a marvelous engine but it really has its work cut out pulling the 3rd gen.

I went to a GM dealer a while back and browsed around. I asked about the 3.4 and 3.8 l Montecarlo and he said the 3.8 mileage is better cause its easier for it to pull the car.
