Air Box Mods?

Well, I have been searching previous threads, and found several peices of information. TomP said to cut the slanted part off the front of the Air box, which I am thinking about doing. As well I read to drill a hole in the bottom of the canister. But I live on a dirt road and to travel to work and school is going to mean 5-7km(3-5 miles) every day on a dusty road.

I was wondering if free mods for the air box like cutting and drilling will cause it to suck in dirt?

I don't know about drilling a hole in the bottom, but I cut off the slanted part on the front. I don't know about getting dirt in there either b/c I just cut it off a couple days ago and have been driving my truck. It seems to have given me a slightly deeper sound too but that may just be my imagination. I think if you have a good filter such as K&N then you should be okay.

Personally...i wouldnt waste my time. Do a cold air and feel more difference. Dont touch the lid... unless u have something to leave no burs...it looks like **** and depending on the state u might have probs with smog for tampering with the induction. Do a cold air so u can make ur car stock again.

Hey ked...try this..it works great for me:

take a 3" sewer adapter and attach it to the maf, and then a 60* elbow. Cut a hole in the extra battery box so its open and has a straight shot to the ground. Stick the TPI K&N in the hole and voila cold air.

Graeme,
When you going to go to Bob's Big Boy so I can check out your ride?
Or Cruisers?
I'm following your idea, pretty well.
Would love to see the set up, too!

Hey karl..
Sure, but need to wait until my car is back from tranny shop some time next week. I could maybe meet you at the old cruisers if you know where it is?

I think I will try what you said instead, cold air does the trick, I was wondering do you have a picture of this set-up, just for reference?

Old Cruisers? New Cruisers is the Carwash, right? You should visit Bob's Big Boy, what a BLAST!
Is Old Cruisers what used to be Kevins Burger (Desoto & Nordhoff)? I used to hang out there in the late 80's early 90's.
Nothing like Van Nuys Blvd in 81-85, when I was street racing my 1968 Firebird 400/TH400, then my 1967 RS/SS Camaro Convertible 4-speed 350.
Firebird gone to Canada to a collector.
But, Still have my 1967
And now a 1968 (it's my Wife's/then my Sons when he's 16-18 in 15 1/2 years!). Can't wait to see your ride.
