Need more power

I have a 1992 Rally Sport Camaro. Its a manual transmission and the only mods I have done to it is I have a 40 series Flowmaster muffler, no cat, and I took my air box off. Other than that it is stock. Problem I have is my friend has a 1990 Acura Integra GS and it is a manual transmission too. Only mod he has done to his is took the cat off and has a cold air intake. But I can't hold him past 3rd gear! it pisses me off. We were neck and neck from 1st to 2nd to half of 3rd and he started creeping past me. I need to beat him! Give me some good/cheap ideas.

reduce the weight of your car as much as you can. K&N filters help some a chip would help a little, but if I were you a quick fix would be a posi and some 4.10's and then a solid ignition system and pulleys...

Since you took your airbox out, where'd you put your speed density sensor? That was my big mistake at the track. I took the elbow piece off and ran w/ an open throttle body forgetting that without a MAF, my air/fuel stuff would be all messed up since my air was coming in from a different place.

When you mean you took the airbox off, does that mean you're running with the throttle body open to the wind?

And Monkie, what the HELL does your boldfaced quote mean???? No matter how many times I read it, the damn thing makes no sense. Do they teach English in SC???

Its a song you **** face. Aparently you do not listen to rap or you would know a thing called Cash Money Millionaires. Pretty much it means Jason E is a big ****ing idiot that doesn't know what he is talking about. And to prove my point if he mean't he took the whole ****ing thing off and is running nothing but the throttle body then I'm sure thats what he would say. "Yea I took the whole ****ing thing off." Sounds to me like he took the air box off. Yup, look at that thats what he said "I took the air box off".

And to seriously answer your ****ing stupid question it means loud pipes now little Jason that means that the pipes are loud.... big rims wheel sizes change. Like you can get 16", 17", 18" etc... they are probably talking about 20"s..... Wodie thats our life they live for loud pipes and big rims.... When we pull up at the club they drive up to a club..... Sorry thats our night they are apologizing because they are going to be the stars of the night (aka: center of attention)

Now see, its not that hard to understand. Stop trying to act like a big shot. Oh and good job getting that 92 Z28 that you were saying for so long could kick my 97 Z's *** . Finally figured it out huh? Nice car.

P.S. really intelligent comment about South Carolina. You are a quick one man!

Well,
Some of us don't speak "Cash-Money-Millionaire-ese". Real talented group they are too! They're a bunch of Jackasses in person, but that's for another story. I believe it was a good natured comment Jason made, and I would think twice about personally attacking a truly contributing member of this board. I think a little bit of maturity is required on these boards. We don't take too well to the "*****" attitude.

Now, to add something too this post, 4.10 gears would make his car almost totally unstreetable. I'm not sure what your budget it, but getting posi and 4.10 gears would almost certainly be more money than slapping in a "sneaky pete" NO2 system. That would be the way I would go. You could have a decent head machining and a 3 angle valve job for around $300 bucks. That is where I would start anyways.

Rap + F-body = When I was in high school. You need to relax Monkie. Kick back with some wanna-be-G's, tilt back some Tanqueray (or is it Hennesey now?), light a fat splif, roll down the strip, hit the switches, and chill. Jason just asked a question, and it sounded like he was kidding with you- not attacking you.

ANYway, that Integra's a fast and light car.. my friend just got one- Wow. I agree with getting lower gears... but to save $$, you could pick up a junkyard rear axle and swap it in. What did the '92 3.1's with manual trannies have as rear gears, anyway?

There's no speed density sensor located in the air ducting; it looks like a rectangle, and runs off a vacuum line. It's not like the MAF setup which needs to be in the line of airflow. A cold-air or ram-air intake might help more than the "open" air box.

Even still, it'll be a hard race... and then wait until your friend adds an exhaust, or cams.. or ...

Ok, I got a rolling list of people to comment for here....

TechSmurf,
Thanks

cpbldc,
I had a feeling I wasn't really out of a loop (or missing much) if I hadn't heard of these guys before

Monkie,
Ah, Monkie my friend. I could be high-schoolish and type out a long list of swears here, but this is a tech board, not a vendetta post. Yes, I was kidding. Who knows, other people may have thought so too!! Chill...and as for your SC heritage, I was kidding with that as well. So chill. As for the '91, the lady I was going to buy it off of backed out at the last minute. She was too attached to it to sell it. And quite frankly Monkie, I would take that '91 Z over my '97 30th Z any day of the week...to each his own.

Tom,
LOL That's all I gotta say, man

To get back to tech, to answer the question posed by Tom, all 3.1's had 3.23s for gears. A set of 3.73s would definitely give you a better launch, especially with a 5 speed. Also, Hypertech chips are $99 through Auto Zone...not a bad price for a SOTP improvement (At least in my car it was).
