what octane level would be best for the 2,8? I currently use the 89 is that too much or too little?

From what I have heard, your engine is at stock compression so there really isn't any need to run higher octane fuel. 87 octane is just fine and I have had no problems with it.

If you notice your engine pinging just step up to the next octane level, but there shouldn't be a problem.

I can't belive your complaining about $1.49!!!!! There are times I pay $2.25 for 89 octane!

i also have a faulty fuel pump so my engine never gets a constant flow of gas and its hard to tell if it sounds right. How do you tell if its pinging?

You'll know if it's knocking/pinging. It makes a nasty, loud popping or knocking sound. Don't confuse this with a rod knock though.

wont water condensation mixed in the gas cause a similar "crackling" sound? couldnt the sound be a signal for bad gass?

Stuart, you better replace that soon- before you get stranded!

I went to 93 when I got my ADS Superchip; now that the chip's back in the box in the basement, I'm still running 93. "Why not?" I was thinking of trying a tank of 87 to see if the car feels different.

Well, I'll be damned... I get home, and there's a new copy of Hot Rod waiting for me- with an "Octane shootout". Interesting stuff... you guys should find a copy! They took a Mopar motor, and ran it on 87, 87 w/104+, 91, 91 w/104+, 100, and 115 octane fuels. They even got HP charts out of it!

In these newer cars there is really no need to run more then 93 and even that is abit overkill unless you are running alot of mods. When i ran my firebird modded up it required 89, but even then i could get away with a tank of 87 IF i layed off the NOS. The computers in your cars will adjust and kill any ping. Thats why there there. Now in no computer cars you can run as high as you want to go in octane - try it in your computer cars and you will get al sorts of codes without the mods and computer programing to work with it... Even at my Mavericks 9.0:1 and moderate build with NOS i can run 89, but she likes 93 with the occasional trip to the airport for 100LL. BUT even the V8 doesn't really need it, it doesn't have the compression or mods to warrent it. I have not noticed ANY time difference with 87 to 100LL, altho the car will seem to rev cleaner with 13 gallons of 89 and 3 gallons of 100. Running 50/50 of 93/100 just smells cool - if ya ever have smelt high octane burn - its a diffent smell... Anyways, run 89 to 91 in the little V6 mills and you will have a happy car. Don't bother with higher - the engine won't pick up anything you will notice, believe me i tried it once

I run 93 because you can't get 91 in MA, and its only .10 more a gallon than 89. 93 is down to 1.39 now. Yipee!!!

Tom, why did you take the ADS out? For emissions? I left my Hypertech in and ran it on the dyno at work for my inspection...passed lower than ever!
