Re: Water pump removal?

sometimes u can hammer in the next size up torx bit , if not ived used vise grips tograb the head of the bolt and break it loose.
final option is is to use a drill bit and drill the head of the torx bolt off and then use vice grips on it after u pull the water pump off

For Torx screws, sometimes the bolts may not be so badly stripped that you can use an Allen key to get them out in my experience.

Re: Water pump removal?

Hammer a cheap socket on to it and try to get it loose that way too. Those bolts aren't on too tight anyway. Spray some PB nut buster on it or some WD40 to help loosen it up.

Re: Water pump removal?

You should be able to "rent" a power steering pulley puller for free from most any auto parts store.

Did you check for the access hole that Gumby mentioned?

Re: Water pump removal?

I've been able to use a wrench to get the bolt behind the power steering pump pulley. Do it last and you should be able to get it. It won't be easy, but it's usually doable.

Re: Water pump removal?

I just tried to remove the #6 bolt, but its a no go, it's in a tight spot, between the metal hose and motor mount*...my hand and fore arm are too big to allow me to get there, the only real way to remove this bolt is with a remote camera and monitor and impact wrench!

Re: Water pump removal?

You shouldn't have to remove that bolt anyway, it just attaches the support bracket to the engine, removing the two nuts (#3) shoudl be all you need to do.

Then it may be time to throw in the towel and take it to a mechanic with the proper tools.

does it still run? let it get hot then try, let it get hot and smack it hard with hammer, get it hot then pour really cold water on the bolt, heat just the bolt head till smokin hot then touch candle to head or use oil, to wick in.... shock it to make it lets lose stuff.

Re: Water pump removal?

Looking at your diagram, if you have all three number 9 bolts and the two number 3 nuts off, It will still be stuck. You must remove bolt number 6 and nut number 4 , as the pump must be removed up (vertical) and not out (horizontal). The aluminum bracket saddles the pump shaft behind the pulley, so you must remove the rear bracket, at least from the block side, so the p.s. pump studs wont hold you back.

That is, unless you can remove the studs from the back of the pump, then the bracket can stay on the block.

Best of luck. If you were closer I'd offer a hand
