OMG (shaking head) Double clutching is when you have it out of gear and you go to put it in gear and it wont go in. Just let the clutch out then push it back in and it will go in gear. What the movie meant was "...not power shifting like you should have" Power shifting is never letting off the gas while shifting. Hope I cleared it up for ya.

so is powershifting just shifting really fast without letting off the gas? could I do that with mine?

I'd stick with the ''granny shifting'' unless you can afford a blown motor.

Uh guys, as long as you're good, it doesn't matter. Just do what feels comfortable.

Personally, I don't let off the gas when I shift (when I'm racing). I keep it floored, and my RPM's go up maybe 100 b/c by that time, I'm hittin the next gear. You couldnt' tell the 100.

We have T-5's in out cars, and they don't like powershifting, at all. It's bad for pretty much your entire car

Double clutching is mostly Rig stuff. No need for us. Normal driving depress gas press clutch switch gear release clutch press gas. Double clutching is pushing IN the clutch to get OUT of gear, releasing the clutch then pushing it AGAIN to get into gear. Racing in my 5 speed I do not release the gas, just a harder kick when it gets slammed into the next gear. "Speed Shifting", "Rip Shifting" and whatever else it's called IS VERY BAD, it eats syncros. Meaning the gears no longer want to mesh inside the trans. No mesh = no shift. This is done by not using the clutch AT ALL slightly releasing the gas to rev down a few hundered RPM's so the tension will be released off the input shaft of the trans allowing you to pull the shifter out of the current gear to move to the next one. You then rev the engine slightly to "Force Mesh" the shifter into the next gear. This is how the syncros get wasted they have to time to adjust between shifts.

double clutchin sux

no need for it unless your sycro are shot already
it was used a lot for the older cars that did not have syncros in them so this way you match the gears a lot easier and dont get the nice little grind

as for powershifting or whatever where you dont let off the gas when you shift... how is that really bad for the car? I can understand the tranny not liking it a bit b/c of the extra jolt but hey gotta have some fun now right
and as for the blown motor how the hell would you do that unless like a moron you over rev the bastard

Yeah I know about double clutching , I have a Tandem dumptruck at work with a Eaton tranny and half the time thats the only way to get it to shift .

As far as powershifting . The more you get into racing the more your gonna power shift naturally . At least thats the way it was with me.

double clutching is used by big rigs, it helps the transmission last longer,

so you are: going going going, clutch in, gear neutral, clutch out(syncronizes the gears b4 the tension is applied), clutch in, shift to next gear, clutch out...... going going going etc...

where you hear of double clutching? fast and the furious eh?
that movie was cool, but more unrealastic than anything... kinda corny... i still love the "Stand alone fuel management" hollywood makes stuff up...

Its not fake. the fuel computer I am looking to put into my car when I swap engines is $500! for everything. I sell this stuff. They have stand alone computers for everything. You no longer need the ecm even. Fuel, Spark, Boost timers & Contollers, Boost stagers and of course NOS computers. NOT Stagers its an actual little blue box that has 3 wire plug connections to control the flow, the amount and pressure of the NOS according to engine demand/ ability to handle. have you ever heard of a LAP TOP INTERFACE PROGRAM? They exist, and they do EXACTLY what was done in the movie as shown. You can modify spark, fuel everything on a "live" basis as you get the "Live" feedback from your cars engine.
