V6 CHiIRPS auto going into second gear
V6 CHiIRPS auto going into second gear
this is to all the guys owning V6's ... theres hope...
after the shift Kit and a corvette servo and a .471 Boost valve..
(and some transgo parts from my mechanic ... I was lucky .. )
My car now Chirps going into 2nd ... if road is smooth ... it does more than chirping ... it spins...
I was really stunned ....i thought i had busted money on the whole deal... but NO im happy ...

now just think what happens if you swapped out the 3.03's 3.23's, 3.42's, or 3.73's. If gas milage is a concern I would say go with 3.42's....i have been thinking about what IF i ever did it, i couldn't imagine engine rpms on the highway with 3.73's or higher....so i would guess i would go with 3.42's.....the you beable to chip and spin just about anywhere...
? for yea, since i just thought of it.....i have a 90 3.1 bird with the mods below....supposedly it came stock with 2.73s right??? (if i remember right, the 3.23's came in v8s' ???)
well when doing 80 on the highway i am at about 2900, 3000 rpm's. i have 102,000 on her.....does that sound about right, or is that high for 2.73's. plus, i can spin the pegleg from a standstill with out breaking. or is it possible that they are higher than 2.73's
this is what i mean, if i ever went with 3.73's i would be curisin' on the highway at about 4,000 no?? not good for the engine and it would take forever to get there right?
nice work 89camaro

hey spinz,
im able to chirp just about anywhere ... spin is the problem... no matter how hard or cold the road surface is i chirp...(rev first gear over 4500 RPM) and it chirps for sure...
and about ur rear end if it came stock.. and u didnt touch it ur 90 3.1 bird came with a 3.23 if a V6 and auto - a V8 and auto came with 2.73
well the prev owner of my car changed the rear end ( what dumb guy would put a low rear end on a V6 car) (well gives a lot of mileage in the highway)
if u are doubtful about ur rear end...go to this site
http://www.smokemup.com/utilities/calc/mph_range.cfm
and it lists a table sayin RPM to speed in the gears ..try different rear ends and ull know what ur speeds are likely to be
(my wheel size is 26 in - 215/65/R15 i donno if u have 16 inch rims then there might be a slight difference - there is a diameter calculator on teh site too!!!)
well a 3.42 should do like 60 mph on OD running 2000RPM i think the 3.23 should do lower..
with the 3.55 / 3.73 ull rev more..(which some people dont like) (also consumes fuel)
3.55 is proabably the best to go with ... if ur lookin for quick pickup
whatever u do ull have to adjust the computer to adjust teh spedometer

and usually i know of some ppl who went with higher ratios and didnt gain mauch in the 1/4 E/T's (soem gained like .10 of a sec) some event lost time due to the rear end... its a very debatable topic...esp on v6's
actually overcolck... its easy to do that with a v8 which has lots of torque...but to do that with a v6 is something i never expected to happen.. i know its losing traction...but its cool i think (not everytime)

well i checked out the link.....
my tires are 235, 60R 15, so it said my diameter was 26.1
so if i am cruising on the highway at about 85, my tach reads about 3,000 rpms
so i put all that in and the only thing that came close was 4.11 and that can't be right....plus, the gear ration on on there says they would be 2.7x's which doesn't make sense at all either....
my tires are 235's and I can break them loose for a little bit and stir up some smoke just by mashing the gas.....but that sounds crazy.
i may just have to get under the car and check the numbers on the rearend and compare it to the numbers in the haynes manual.

well the stock tires on a 15x7 rim of my 89 camaro was 215 65R 15 anytiem u change this setting ull have to recalibrate the speedometer or ur speedometer is way off... so if u put 235 60 R15 on the 15X7 rim and didnt recalibrate problly thats ur problem...
Actually, the diameter of the 235/60/15 tire is only 0.1" larger than the 215/65/15 tire. This means the speedo will be off less than 1 mph at 70. See Equations on the main page of this site for the formulae to use.
I checked this out before I put 235/60s on my 'Bird.
Just an FYI

86chicken, someone else on the board mentioned that a while back. that since the 65 went down to 60, but 215 went up to 235 they negated each other. so running 235 60 15s is like running stock 215 65 15s. good call, i didn't think of comparing the two on that equation page.
