2.8 turbo
2.8 turbo
ok i think maybe this spring break me and my father are going to put a small turbo charger on my car maybe like a 5lb boost, i have a 2.8 and i donno i like that little motor its nice, it doesnt smoke at all, that car starts right up, but i wanna add a few horeses to it and get my feet wet in turbochargers, but i think we are going to do the low buget thing with this project, but i wanted to clear a few things up. 1. can i mate the turbo up to my throttle body or do i need a new intake? 2. does any one know of any companies that sell a cheap turbo exhaust manifold i could use, i got access to a welding machine and a pipe bending machine. 3. incase i find a cheap decint turbo at a junkyard thats in good condition, does anyone have any tips or things i sould look fr on the turbo, and is there a way to see howmuch boost it will give me? thank you and any input will be grately appriciated.
and i thought i might send out a picture of my bird!, ps this is an older pic of my car before i waxed it and cleaned it up and everything so this pic doesnt do any justice to it.

I do not know much bout the subject. I would say after getting the turbo, do a rebuild of it. The rebuild kits are $75, and would be well worth the efforts rather than having to pull it back off and rebuild it later.

exactly, the bottom end on a 2.8 isn't all that strong, you're asking for trouble with any kind of power adder on the stock 2.8 bottom end.

And with the T3 Exhaust housing he's has boost at 1600 RPM's... So yes the V8's have him at the line... 60 feet later side by side... after that well.... they better have NOS...
The only thing he does not like about it is the 5 speed trans he has to run. Auto won't take it... he's tried... a week later he was putting the 5 speed back in.

factory 7.6 cr was enough for my 76 bonneville. It'll do high 16/low 17 now. not too bad for a 26yr old car, origonal-never rebuilt-engine with a car that weighs over 4500 lbs w/no passengers.

that's a retarded rule...
whats the white car in the picture...
looks like a 2.8/3.1/3.4 in there (a Fuel injected 2.8 intake manifold)
he seems to have twin turbos in there
but its real funny the way he seems to be feeding the intakes from the outputs of those turbos...its like a T connector close to the intake (I was under the impression that a Y pipe was needed there)
hey firearm where didya get that picture from?
and hunter looks like that car has ****load of space on either side unlike our camaros lol then that header thing wouldve been a breeze ...big bends wouldve been just ok...lol

I think that white car is a Datsun 510. That is such a clean install.
Say, if the rice boys can get 200 plus hp from stock internals, can't we expect the same from a rebuilt two-eight? The cover of Turbo Performance mag last month had a HUGE hp Talon running a stock block and crank, and all this 2.8 guy is asking for is 5lbs. of boost. Sounds to me like there is a market for hi-tech parts for our cheap Bowties and Shields. Don't forget that this motor was also offered in truck bodies, and that Buick has a huge turbo aftermarket for wheelstanding Regals and GMC had it's version, the four-scratch-mark Typhoon.
Like the rice bumper sticker says, "Got Boost?"

Why make it complicated?
Just get a running 3.4, slip it in, add nitrous and have fun.
So simple!
Back it up with a time slip.
What is the least expensive NOS system I can buy?
Besides used?
I assume, the tank I can buy used, tho.
Wish I didn't have to rebuild three cars. I'd do it and go to Carlsbad to have fun.
Sea level racing.
Who is down by Carlsbad? Anyone?

you are correct tom, and the rule makes sense, but a 6-pt cage for a freakin 14 second car?? that's just going a bit overboard
