How to take throttle body off
As you guys know , I have been talking about it for months , me changing my injectors .Well Friday Im off for Spring break . The only trip I will be taking is down into my intake manifold to take these **** poor hardly no spraying injectors out of there !!!
Prabably sounds like a stupid question , but how do I take the throttle body off ? I dont wanna start unscrewing screws that look like they need to come out when they are the wrongs ones .lol . I could not find how to take the throttle body off in my haynes manual .But it does say to torque the plenum bolts to like 23 pds . Is this really necessary guys ? Sure , I have a torque wrench , but when I bought it , I bought a 3/8 drive , which means I have to buy an adapter for it .If I really dont need to torque em , I wont buy an adapter . So give me some input guys , Thanx !

I'd say definately torque them down; why would you need an adapter? Do you just have 1/2" sockets? I'm the exact opposite; we have a 1/2" torque wrench, and I'm always using a 3/8" adapter.
All the plenum bolts take 10mm sockets, and the ones for the throttle body to plenum are 13mm's, and I think the fuel-rail-to-intake-manifold bolts are either 13mm or 15mm. All those torque specs are for 12-18 ft/lbs; it's light, since you're putting a steel bolt into aluminum threads- too tight and you can strip the threads out. I usually go to 15, right in the middle.
Check the back of the Haynes book... I don't know if they've changed 'em, but the one I bought in 1994 has a 13th (or 11th?) chapter, that talks about "85-92 updates". In there you should see torque specs for everything... I think! Unless I'm thinking of my GM shop manual.
Consider buying a roll of thin black gasket material, and an x-acto knife. That way you can cut new gaskets by using the old ones as templates. I re-used plenum & TB gaskets once... when I pulled the plenum off again, I found all kinds of dirty oil residue on the gasket surfaces, on the "inside" corner (nearest the center of the engine). Apparently I got a ton of air leaks by re-using the gaskets.
Two bolts hold the TB to the plenum, they're 13mm's. You might want to unclip the throttle cable from the butterfly valve, don't lose the "oh ****" clip- they like to fly into hidden areas, and "oh ****!"
If you have an automatic (i think you do?) then the TV cable clip just slides forward off the TB linkage, hold the TB butterfly linkage shut while you slide the TV cable's green clip forward.
Enjoy Spring Break; I just came off it, and here I am, staying after-hours at work, doing a f%^$ing programming project, due by midnight. I checked the webpage before Spring Break, didn't see the project, and figured I was good for another couple weeks. Good damn thing I went back to the site on monday.
Pointers to callback functions, my ***. (sigh)

Tom ,
Thanx ! I do have 3/8 sockets for it , I have half my tools inside and the other half in my utility room , so I kinda forget what I have sometimes
...I think I would rather be working on my car than going on spring break ! ....Whats your job Tom ?

...I think I would rather be working on my car than going on spring break ! ....Whats your job Tom ? Wayne, undo the top part bolts.
Then flip top manifold over, towards passenger side.
No true need to remove the throttle body, nor disturb any cables settings.
You will have plenty of room.
Don't forget to remove the car battery or just disconect the positive a cable.
I used needle nose pliers/tiny screwdrivers to remove the wiring harness.
Watch out for ANY dirt going inside the fuel.
Use almost a whole can of carb cleaner to clean the outside rail and inside, too.
Enjoy your fun.
It's not a bad project at all.

Wayne, the TB is really no sweat. You only need to pull the 2 bolts and then push it aside. This way you can remove the upper plenum and have it completely out of the way, with out touching the cables or coolant lines. You will need a TB gasket though. In my case, I bought the plenum gaskets but I didn't need them.
I'm pulling my plenum again and swapping injectors this Saturday. Not a hard job. Use a 5/8ths line wrench on the fuel lines to avoid stripping them. Oh, and honestly, besides head bolts and main bearing caps, torque wrenches are worthless. No need to torque the plenum or TB.

Just remove the two vacuum lines at the rear of the plenum, the egr tube on the passengers side, and the vacuum lines, throttle/TV cable/Cruise cables fromt he TB, then remove the 10mm bolts on the top and the two 12 or 12mm bolts for the aux a/c bracket and flip the plenum to the front of the car, and you'll save a lot of time. The 3.1 is a piece of cake to work on, just take your time and make sure you get everthing disconnected correctly.
