I just don't get why people like black wheels, you can't even see what they look like from a distance, all you see is blackness with a silver ring around it.
I remember back in '88 when Pontiac started used color keyed wheels (black, white, or maroon) on the Grand Am SE and Bonneville SSE, and I hated them way back then.

Re: BEST looking 3rd gen firebird & camaro rims
Love the black Vette rims on the Camaro. Black wheels are the only rims I've ever put on any of my cars and I wouldn't change a thing. While I do like many different styles of rims I don't care if it's a fad or not that's just how I roll. I bought a set of chrome 18's for my Grand Prix ended up selling em and bought the same rim in black it looked 100% better. I can't wait until I can ditch the factory gold spokes and mount up my C6 Z06's.

I have my original gold GTA wheels and I don't care for them, too many little lines for my taste (but I will always keep them). I know I like the Torq Thrust M and maybe the Foose "Legend" wheels, but I've got about another year before I make that decision..

Hmm, I don't remember the Eurosport VR, although I do remember the Beretta GTZ with the matching wheels, those didn't look too bad.

Re: BEST looking 3rd gen firebird & camaro rims
Actually there is a balance between good looking wheels and overbearing wheels. There are a bunch of great looking wheels. Unfortunately the vast majority of those wheels do not accent the car, but rather take the focus away from the car and draw all your attn to the flashy wheels. Also Wheels that typically look good on Camaros, do not look good on Firebirds IMHO. So just because it looks good on one car does not necessarily mean it would look good on another.

Re: BEST looking 3rd gen firebird & camaro rims
just got my new rims yesterday. theyr american racing rebels 18"x9" had to use a 1" spacer. (shoulda gone with .5" or .75" spacer instead) but all in all i love these rims. iv wanted this exact rim for the past 4 years now, and i finally found a deal on them
but i deffinatly need to lower it about 2" now. thats my next thing im gonna do to it.

I agree, IMO I think thats why the single stripe 16" IROC rim (85-87) is a long time favorite.

I have always been a fan of the classic look. I got a great deal on these TT2's 17x10 and 17x12

^^That's really the look I want for my GTA, although I think I may like the TT-M's a little better, not sure.
Re: BEST looking 3rd gen firebird & camaro rims
Beautiful, what are they?
I'm the same, I've never understood black rims and never will...to me they look like spare tires, and just look crappy, even when they are a $3k set. They definitely need a polished lip but to me it's still the same...winter donuts. Just personal preference though, to each his own.

IROC 1's [IMG]https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/

IROC 2's[IMG]https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/

I polished and painted the IROC 2's and only painted the IROC 1's. 5 spoke is hard to beat.

Re: BEST looking 3rd gen firebird & camaro rims

Granted Your yellow car is flashy enough to handle chrome wheels, My car on the other hand I think it would overburden the rest of the car and you would lose the car for the wheels when you looked at it.
Another used of a "Beauty Ring" to set the car off... I think it works well on this Camaro as well..

I'm usually not a fan of the black wheels but I like how you tied in the blue gfx stripe with the stripe on the wheels.

You more than likely won't find anyone with those wheels on these type of cars. The only way to see them on the car is to photoshop them on there. There is a request section for that here on the boards.

I think they're either Weld or American Racing wheels. Fugly as hell though.
Re: BEST looking 3rd gen firebird & camaro rims
For my GTA, the factory gold wheels are the ONLY way to go. I would like to have a set made in a 17 or 18 inch diameter though.

It's too bad you are so far away, i'd give you a good deal on them. I've been trying to sell them for almost a year around here and nobody wants them. I switched to IROC's this spring (See sig)

Re: BEST looking 3rd gen firebird & camaro rims
They shouldn't need a spacer to fit. If anything they might rub in the front on the outer edge at full lock if the backspacing is too little.
If the backspacing on the rears are 6 inches or less they should fit perfectly on most Fbodies though you have to watch closely that the bump stop tab can't hit your wheel. (I'd trim it flush and move the rubber bump stop inboard a bit)
My car has sportline springs and 18 inch wheels that are 10 inchers... My fronts are also 8.5 wide. 4 inches back spacing or close to it either way is fine on the front. The larger size lets the wheel clear everything on the inside very well.

Re: BEST looking 3rd gen firebird & camaro rims
I am sure this question has been asked before but I cant seem to find a good post that does. I am getting ready to order some new rims for my 1982 Camaro Z28. I have converted it to Iroc ground effects and want to go to a larger rim than the factory 15". If I go to a 17" rim will I have to lower the car or will it look proportionate?
