Single VS. Double Stripe IROC wheels.
Yes, this is a clash of the titans, the almighty IROC wheels.
Has anyone ever weighed their wheels? I've been looking for the weight of 85-87 IROC wheels, and the weight of 88-90's. I can't find the weights. Maybe I tried the wrong search terms, all I was able to find were a couple dead threads that were never replied to.
Hopefully someone replies to this one!
I should be checking the weight reduction thread, but it is far too long, at a whole 6 pages, and not necessarily focused on wheels. I would just unbolt one of my wheels, but I really do not feel like removing a tire for that, so if anyone knows, please feel free to share your knowledge! It'd really help out, I've been thinking about getting a set of the double stripe IROC wheels, I've always loved the look of them. I could probably pick them up for free, at my local junkyard, if there's a Third Gen.

Yes yes, I know, sounded kind of lazy, but it is the truth. I just read the WHOLE weight reduction thread, from 2005 until this year. I'm actually one of the last posters on it, it's not very active. There's the weight of three wheels posted on there, two sets of GTA wheels and some drag wheels, something of that nature. Not IROC wheels, which is what I'm after.
I think IROC wheels are about 20 pounds, not sure. I wish someone knew. I'm not going out and buying some Draglites to save 5-10 pounds, if that. I like the IROC look too much. Double stripe IROC wheels go great along with an SS hood, I really dig the look. Plus! As I've mentioned, I can probably pick them up for free.

my 90 irocs with 235-55s rear weighed about 46lbs the new 15x8 draglites with 255s dragradials weighed 40lbs so not a lot but some gain..... the front irocs weighed the same as rear but the 15x3s with 185s weigh 22lbs mounted and i went from running 8.97 to 8.80 in the 1/8th mile

Depends if the junk yard has any in at the time, they always give me free stuff if I just ask, such as floor mats, random interior parts. I'll just have to not mention that they're made of aluminum! I'm just trying to figure out the weight though, my single stripe IROCS may be lighter, and I'd just stick with them.

Wow, .17 is a pretty decent gain just some lighter wheels. That's why I'm hoping the Double Strip IROC wheels are lighter. Even gaining .01 would be good for me, it's a win/win situation. combined with the looks of them.

I don't know about the single stripe wheels, but my double stripe wheel weighs 25 pounds.

Thanks for the info. They're probably about the same weight. May as well just restore my single stripe wheels.
They look neat once they're polished and painted.

That's even better news for me. I was told that Magnesium wheels on the C5 Corvettes are 17-21 pounds, and they were a pretty pricey option.

Last time I checked, that was on the light side for wheels. Check out Boze wheels, or even some forged motorcycle wheels. They'll be in the 25-30 pound range, especially RC components forged motorcycle wheels, they're pretty skinny too.
