keyed lugs...

Well this has been driving me crazy... I cannot find a lug key to take my rims off, I went and bought new tires and was hoping to change them myself, but I've already bought three boxes of common lug keys and no luck... I was thinking they would do it at a tire shop pretty cheap but unsure ive heard horror stories from my friend where they just broke his off

Re: keyed lugs...

basically thier is a tool its called a nut extractor. you can buy it you hammer it over the lug nutand impact it off. The lock nut is no longer good at this point and you have to buy a new keyed set

Re: keyed lugs...

I would think any tire shop would have this tool readily available because im sure it is probably a common occurence there.

Re: keyed lugs...

Well I'm honestly not too worried about the keyed lug I actually planned on just replacing it with some old ones I have laying around anyway, I don't think my aluminum rims are in harm of robbery there not all that nice but thanks for the input checking to see if autozone has it tomorrow

Re: keyed lugs...

usually they come in sets. a smaller set. then a larger set, so you might have to buy a whole set to get the one you need. Maybe now they sell them separately. craftsmen sells nut extractors too. so always check with sears too....

Re: keyed lugs...

I know I tried a monkey wrench yesterday and discovered it most certainly will not happen that easy, I actually thought it through since I plan on putting normal lugs back on ill just see if my local tire shop would do it, which I do need my tires balanced anyway ill just make sure they don't do any hillbilly lug breaking lol

Re: keyed lugs...

you can also use an old socket that just a hair smaller than the nut. just hammer it on and take it off with a ratchet. the socket may be trash after that, but it works.

Re: keyed lugs...

Used the socket trick, tire shop tried charging me 20 each lug to break them off.
. They were surprised to see a big cloud of smoke while I peeled outta their parking lot
