Prepping Next Brake Mod: 10-bolt drums to 9 bolt PBR's

Hey gang,

I've been reading up on this swap for a while and you know I know better than the ask a question and not search on it first but here's where I am at with this. I have the whole axle (9 bolt 3.27 with PBR's out of an '89 GTA) and will be scrapping the 10 bolt that's on there now.

I'm collecting the parts to make the swap in the next month or two and so for I have collected:
  • New MC with Prop Valve
  • 9-bolt Gasket, Mobile 1 Syn Oil, GM Posi Additive
  • Ebake cable: Part # BC93132
  • Brake Pads

There are other parts and plans I won't bore you with...

My first question that may or may not be a rehash in some other thread is about the ebrake cable(s). Is there more than one? It looks like there is a the one from the handle on the console that actuates the two others that work the brake calipers. Are there part numbers for those?

Also... JamesC (esteemed brake master) second question: I got a lot of mileage out of THIS THREAD and want to know if you HIGHLY recommend the ebrake guides shown in one of your pics?

Last question is related to the attached pics. Is there supposed to be a lever for the ebrake cable on both calipers? Notice my finger on the lever in the first picture but the same part is missing on the other side. Do I need to locate some addition parts?

Thanks for the help TGO kin!

Keep the slackers away!

It does look like your missing a part for one of the calipers. Where is Ed Miller???

Ed,

If you look at the picture it looks as if one of the actuator brackets for the e-brake is missing from the caliper. Is this a bolt on part or does Cadillac need a new caliper? Do you have any of these parts if it is a bolt on part?

Yes, to be totally correct there are 3 e-brake cables, one in front and two on each side to the calipers. I have numerous PNs for those and will post them up in the AM.

You are missing one of the cable levers on the caliper or the tip broke off. This is common if the rearend is placed on the ground and not supported. You won't need a whole new caliper but they are hard to locate all by themselves. I do have extras on hand (as usual) so if you'd like one, LMK via PM and I'll get back to you soon.

I'm afraid you have me confused with Ed . The guides are cheap insurance against cable/exhaust problems. IIRC, Ed recommended/used a system using "S" hooks. Maybe he'll throw in a pic.

Re: Prepping Next Brake Mod: 10-bolt drums to 9 bolt PBR's

Aight... I got the other ebrake part numbers:

BC93215 and BC93084. These are on order and should be here this week. Each of the three part numbers is a different cost. Strange.

I also picked up some Raybestos semi-metallic brake pads (#PGD413M) Here's another shot of the side with the missing piece.

I hold James in high respect as well, he knows his stuff.

The "S" hooks I mentioned are the stock style as seen here:

The 4th gen cable retainers can, in certain cases, strain the cables and give you issues. Honestly, I don't recommend installing them on a 3rd gen to avoid this problem.

If I can get that axle in my wagon we sure are. Early afternoon was it? I'm planning on calling you Friday evening still...

Ed found the caliper lever. Bought and paid for and just waiting on the shipping. The boxed control arms cleaned up nicely.

I meant from the junction to the calipers..or does the braided lines connect straight from the line (connected to the cylinder)straight to the caliper(I doubt)

hard lines from finelines, IIRC, then braided the calipers.
