Kick panel speakers install

To fix the unbalanced sound front to back that these cars have, I added a set of kick panel speakers. The speakers I used are Pioneer 6.5” 3-way with a mounting depth of 1-3/4”. A hole was cut in the plastic panels to mount the speakers. There is an access hole in the frame for the door hinges that was slightly enlarged to allow the speaker magnets to sit inside. This allows the panels to be reinstalled without sticking out any further and sacrificing leg room. Now, the sound is equally balanced front to back.

Re: Kick panel speakers install

looks like the are very recessed in their holes. How much of a cut did you do? Could you detail exactly how you did this? I'd rather just cut a hole in mine than buy those logic ones that stick out like a sore thumb.. thnx!

Re: Kick panel speakers install

Yeah, I saw the q-form kick panels too and was not a fan.

First I used a sawzall to open the hinge access hole slightly for the speaker magnet to fit in.

Next, I cut a 5" hole in the plastic panel for the 6.5" speaker. The grill OD was larger, so I also had to carefully cut the raised sections of the panel. I only cut small amounts at a time until the grill sat flush.

The last step was using black silicone to seal up the entire backside of the panel.

wow! Cool stuff! How did you run the speaker wiring to that location? I'm really not savvy in wiring sorry if it's a basic question.

Re: Kick panel speakers install

The wiring is ran under the carpet to the head unit and spliced in with the dash speakers.

Yeah, I currently have a Dual XHD6425 head unit, Auto Bahn 2-way 4x6's in the dash, Pioneer 3-way 6.5" TS-A1675R kick panels, Pioneer 4-way 6x9's in the rear sail panels, and a Pioneer GM7300M mono amp powering a Pioneer TS-W305DVC 12" sub in the trunk well.

Re: Kick panel speakers install

if I run 6.5" in the kick panels, 4x6 in the dash, and 6x9's in the sail panels, but no subs, do I need an amp to power all of that?

Re: Kick panel speakers install

^ I would. Otherwise all 6 speakers are gonna be sharing the small amount of power that your headunit puts out. It will sound a lot louder and a lot clearer. Also it's less likely to distort and blow your speakers at a high volume.

I just put in a second amp for my 4x6s and 6x9s and it sounds way better. And it's just some cheap amp that someone gave me. If I was to do it again, I would have got that amp before I put my subs in. Next car I get, I'm definitely amping the mids and tweeters before I even think about a sub.

Re: Kick panel speakers install

How do you expect people to focus on the pods you're making w that mint lunchbox in the background of all the pics? That was probably a childhood dream of 90% of the people on this site.

Sorry, do want to take away from the good work on the pods, they look really cool.
