Remove the fuel line coming out of the fuel pump and turn the engine over. Or short the pump out so it stays on. That'll empty your tank.

If you have no plans to modify the engine as far as power/emissions are concerned, then I would do as everyone is suggesting and clean the engine for all it's worth, and then maybe renew the rubber...

I think the tan wire refers to the Electronic Advance in the distributor, which you must disconnect in order to set base timing. It's a plug which leads into the distributor body.

I fitted an electric "puller" fan from a Vauxhall (European car) to my Camaro and it worked as a "pusher". You just have to make sure the fan will work in reverse, as some will not.
