Re: 20 years ago

A bunch of little things added up...Engine had around 200k miles on it so it was 'loosened up'; it was a non-CC carb so it was tweaked and used a set of DG secondary rods, replaced the stock clutch...

20 years ago (!) I was on my way to Oklahoma from NB. Some members of www.thirdgen.org put on a gathering, meeting up in Norman, OK. We spent a day at Thunder Valley dragstrip in Noble - the same...

Re: 5-speed clutch issue / question

The hydraulic ones are a noticeably stiffer than the earlier 82-83 mechanical linkage.
You could always learn to shift without using the clutch - obviously you'd still need to use it for starting...

Re: Non ac heater control panel?

The non-AC cars just used cables to actuate the various doors in the interior ducting, rather than vaccuum motors. You'll need to locate some cables and adapt them to the door levers. All 4 of my...

Re: Did the T-Tops ever change throught the years?

True, plus the 82-83 cars had a latch instead of pins. And then...the C&C tops were a bit shorter in length.

Re: drum ebrake question: is this right?

This same rear brake setup is used on most all GM rear-drive vehicles from about 78-up, so it should be relatively easy to find a bar (or two) in a salvage yard. A rear-drive Cutlass, Grand Prix,...

Re: drum ebrake question: is this right?

It is tweaked a little bit, but not bad enough that it wouldn't work.
Only reason I can think that it wouldn't work is that the bent part is catching on something and fetching up.

Higher compression by different pistons, dual snorkel air cleaner, larger exhaust manifolds, bigger cam profile, different carb jetting, and a 3.73 axle ratio are the main differences.

It may have some benefit on a carbed application where it can help with atomization of the fuel, but that would be about it.
