You might also want to consider a tapped fuel pump block off plate. Many people do that and its much closer to the oil pan and pretty cheap to make... if you're not running a mechanical fuel pump...

It could also be the injectors, I would check the ohms when the car won't start. It should be around 14 ohms, no less than 10...

I say its a timing issue but as far as the IAC, yes, its supposed to make a humming/buzzing noise. I had to reset my IAc and I had my fans disconnected (during engine swap) and I never knew it...

you might end up doing more damage trying the pry bar method. If you use a thick piece of wood that covers the whole bottom of the pan, you'll be fine...unless your new oil pan is made of paper :p. ...

I left the transmission in when I swapped out into my 350, I had about 2-3 jacks that I used to adjust different...

I think I'd look more into the fuel pump voltage. It is odd that after 2 pumps it still has the same symptoms. Sometimes the grounds go bad on the fuel pump wiring...
