IIRC the s10 clutch master has a threaded line fitting, but not 100% certain. Also the push rod is much longer. I believe you could only have a manual trans with the 4 cyl or 2.8 v6 versions(again...

Sounds like the pilot bushing is starting to drag on the input shaft after it heats up. That would be a cause for those symptoms that you have.

I'm not sure about the FI cars but, I believe the carb cars did not have the single wire connector for the ECT. You would check base timing by disconnecting the 4 pin connector at the distributor....

I have seen many threads on here where the VATS is what seems to be holding people up. I'm not real familiar with it but, from what I understand, the VATS shuts down the vehicle start circuit as well...

Don't forget to check the WP. In the pic, it looks like there is a coolant trail coming from the weep hole. It wouldn't hurt to change the hoses if you end up replacing the WP.
