restated: OIL PAN TROUBLE CAN SOMEONE HELP??

ok. im sorry about the attn: that i posted. it wasnt meant to be that way. i would like help from anyone that can help me. here is my previous post........alright, i just bought a 91z, and i was going to do an oil change yesterday. i decided to use some of that engine cleaner that you add to your crankcase. well i put it in and let it run, then i jacked the car up to change the oil and some MORON that had the car before me screwed up the oil drain plug. its stripped to a circle and it looks like someone welded it to the pan. it wont come out. its a 305 and ill be doing an engine swap in a little less than a year. it just has to make it till then, but should i drill my own hole and put in a self tapping plug? i dont have the time or money to put in a new oil pan. dont have 6-8 hours to put a new one on, and i dont really want to pull that 305 and put it back in. what should i do?? like i said, i ground around the edge of the plug but it WILL NOT TURN. if grind the head off how can i get the rest of it out??

They actually welded it to the pan ?

Hmm.

What about Drilling it out, and retapping the hole for a Piep plug ? as far as getting th "rest" of it out, You may be out of luck there.

if you could break the weld, you would be in alot better shape.

Try drilling it for an EZ out.

Going to be an interesting undertaking )

Pat,

Usually, one topic thread will do the trick...

well i'm not sure where your other thread is, but as vader said one post per problem will usually work, sometimes you have to wait a while. if the plug is welded in the pan you can take a cut off disk and remove the weld and the unscrew the plug. if it's striped you could tap it the next size bigger and use a new plug. if the plug is striped replace the plug. if the threads are stripped in the pan there would be several options to fixing them, all involving welding and a fair amount of skill.

There is no easy answer, you've got a problem, with few solutions.

Just go buy one of those pumps that you attach to a hand drill and siphon the old oil out through the dipstick tube. A LOT easier than pulling the engine, even if you have to change the oil a couple times to make sure all that cleaner stuff is out.

Good call, Mike. Just get a suction gun and eventually you'll get most of it out. I use one after I drop the tranny pan and replace the filter to suck 3.5 quarts out, put new in, drive around, stop, suck...until I've got about 95% new fluid in the tranny (I have an Excel spreadsheet that calculates how many times you have to do it if anyone's interested). Pull the filter and change it, and then when you get more time take it to someone who can fix it or, depending on your skill, the pan may end up looking like swiss cheese .

I GOT IT! The dipstick, it already goes to the oil pan, just drain the oil out that way. Sorry, only thing i could think of.
