Oil Pressure
My cars oil pressure is going crazy, it hardly goes over 30psi and that is only when the engine is on while driving constantly. (freeway) But when I stop and idle, the psi goes to 0 or very close to. Not sure what is causing this, any ideas?
I would assume oil pump but thats just me guessing.
Also, my fuel pump make a really bad whining noise and before I even touch E my car dies from lack of gas. (not sure if the gauge is off) Sometimes the engine will run real rough and just die like its not getting enough fuel. Not sure whats up, if the fuel pump is going or what...

Re: Oil Pressure
could be a bad sending unit or bad bearings in the motor..

Re: Oil Pressure
An easy check for the oil pressure is to install an aftermarket gauge. I'd be willing to bet your factory gauge or sending unit is not operating correctly.

Re: Oil Pressure
I assume you are talking about the first part of the post (oil pressure)
Where is the sending unit located? And what exactly is it? I assume it is what takes the data from the engine and tells the gauge what to display but I just want to make sure.
Thanks for the reply's.

Re: Oil Pressure
its on the driver side rear of the motor above the oil filter.
The oil pump pickup could have fallen off of the pump also..

Re: Oil Pressure
Is this the sender you are talking about?

And why is one cheaper than the other, I don't see a difference...?

Re: Oil Pressure
So the oil pressure will fluctuate up and down while idling and than go to 0, still a problem with the sender.

Re: Oil Pressure
My car turns over but doesnt fire. It has spark and on members recommendations I have changed out the following: new fuel pump ( again), sending unit, ECM, coil, new battery, oil pressure sensor) I shot cold start into it and it tries to turn over but doesnt. Checked fuses, relays, couldnt find anything wrong. My cars sat in my garage over the winter and I started it up monthly then all of a sudden it just quit. Cranks over and doesnt fire.
I dont mean to hijack this thread but have tried almost everything I can think of.

Re: Oil Pressure
Car dosen't knock, runs fine. Kinda rough sometimes but i think that was my half fast job at rebuilding the tranny. The exhaust is smooth sounding and no hickups or anything so I'm pretty sure the motor is good just the oil pressure thing.

Re: Oil Pressure
It was the oil pressure sending unit, it had oil inside of it somehow. Thanks
