I got a new Napa sending unit 62buvks cdn for my 88 gta to fix a oil leak
it ficed the leak yesterday but the oil pressure gauge reads half of what it used to
so I told them it's defective and they orderd me a new one Tuesday.
now my question
I have had 2 units from partsource both worked unit started leaking oil
does napa quality down
should I just get a new rock auto ac Delco unit.

A quick story on that- I had a truck in the shop with a A/C over pressure problem. Changed all sorts of parts, but it came down to the pressor sensor. One NAPA unit read 73 PSI when system pressure was 150 PSI. Another NAPA sensor with the same part number read 165 when system pressure was 150 PSI. I ended up ordering a factory sensor through the dealer at three times the cost of the NAPA sensor, but it actually read the same pressure to the computer as what my mechanical gauges said.

Long story short, the NAPA brand stuff can be wildly out of specification as can any aftermarket sensor. Some times it matters, and some times it doesn't, but you will pay the price in the long run using the incorrect brand in some cases. Most oil pressure sensors eventually leak, which sucks, but not having the right oil pressure displayed sucks more in the long run.

From what I can tell from when I replaced mine the AC Delco looks identical to what the online GM parts warehouses sell as OE and the Delco comes with a 2 year warranty instead of one. I've had good luck with mine over the past 2 years other than having to tighten it up again a week or so back because of a minor oil leak (probably didn't tighten it enough when I replaced it).

There are 2 different but identical looking sending units. One is a 60psi and the other is a 80psi.

Do you have the part #?

I just picked up a delco unit (not installed yet) but holy cow have they gone up in price..

Nearly doubled, I just had to order another after mine continued to leak but it was still under warranty so it should be free when I send the broken one back

Another tip when installing these is add some thread sealant and don't overtighten using the top nut, I believe this is a 2 piece design and overtightening up top will cause an oil leak. If you have a stubby wrench, like I used, or maybe a crows foot that you could get on the bottom nut that will help with tightening the sending unit. These units are made in China so they are not the most sturdy built and the design seems like it could lead to oil leaks.

FYI, I've now had 2 AC Delco oil pressure senders that are defective (one right out of the box) and leaking at the crimp area where the sensor comes together...Made in China junk. I just ordered a lifetime guarantee Wells product that is $10 less than the AC Delco and looks completely different so hopefully its not defective.
