Wider Iroc Z rims

I have a 85 camaro Iroc z with the l69 motor I am doing some mods and it will have around 300 hp. I already had traction problems to begin and now it will be an even bigger problem. Does anyone sell a wider Iroc z rim by any chance? I actually really do those rims.

Re: Wider Iroc Z rims

It sounds to me that your traction problems are based around suspension deficiencies - worn bushings, OEM rear control arms and TQ arm, sub-par tires...

Tell us what you have and we will help.

BTW, no one makes a wider IROC wheel - larger in diameter, yes - but bit more than 8.5".

You can always have them widened. That's what I did with my rears.
Weldcraft in Michigan did them for me. Fantastic work. But not cheap, so beware!

How much did it cost to get them widen?

Re: Wider Iroc Z rims

Yes you can widen them for about $400 a pair.

I didn't mention it because there are hardly any 245-50-16 tires left on the market, let alone anything larger (other than a few, select drag tires). So you are really barking up the wrong tree looking at 16" stuff at this point - other than keeping the car somewhat original.

dodgeitclevelan, what tires and size are you running? What about your suspension?

Re: Wider Iroc Z rims

You need good tires, not a wider wheel.

It was about $200 per wheel, plus shipping, which was about $100 per wheel (keep in mind I'm in Canada)

I forgot to mention I widened 17" iroc rims to 17x9.5 so I can run 275/40/17 tires.

That's so obvious I can't believe I didn't think of that. I will to look in the morning at what brand it is. I have not had the car very long. What would be a good street tire?

Re: Wider Iroc Z rims

Do you daily drive this car? A set of drag radials would be my first choice.

This is my weekend project car. I also use it to take my wife to the movies on weekends.
