Cons:
No EGR provisions if you have to worry about emissions.
89+ throttle linkage hits the fuel rail crossover so you either have to put a spacer behind it or go swap to the older linkage style.
On my buddy's car with poly motor mounts it hit the hood considerably, so much that it didn't look like we could trim the hood webbing enough so he ended up having to go with a 2" cowl, might have gotten away with it, but who knows.
I have heard they have similar fueling issues like the TPI and Mini ram rear 4 cyl run a tad richer/leaner than the front 4 do I can't remember exactly which way it goes N/A, forced induction is the opposite though.
Pros:
Obviously more power on the top end, very little loss of low end power.
WAY Easier to assemble/disassemble than the TPI.
You can remove the injectors with out taking the manifold apart.
Works will all the factory parts, sensors, wiring harness etc. Except the fuel lines.
IMO it's a good looking manifold.

Re: HSR likes & dislikes...

having done a set of injectors on a TPI recently, the fact that you can just change injectors without taking the manifold apart is GREAT. also, they can support 1000+ rwhp with boost

Re: HSR likes & dislikes...
i only have a shot from a distance of my swap. it looks pretty mean with my current setup. i will post pics once i can put together some money for headgaskets and new head bolts.
but pro's:
-injector swaps are a breeze.
-can make some good power/flows nicely.
-looks like a really clean install with all hoses and fuel lines routed out back.
-i pulled my top end (including heads) apart in about an hour with my HSR set up. so easy to work on things.
-runs on stock tune, wiring, and ecm!
con's:
-blocks off center and rear coolant crossovers which lead to overheating problems on my motor.
-getting at the dizzy lockdown bolt can be a bit tricky depending on how you route your wires and fuel lines.
-no egr for emissions purposes.
-had to cut hood brace to clearance enough.
-have also noticed the fueling differences. my rear four cylinders all run richer than the fronts.
overall though, i love the swap. the money seems well worth it and is a versatile design capable of supporting whatever i want to build in the future. can't wait to throw some boost at it

FYI
??? Blocks off center and rear cooling which led to overheating problems??? The center is for the exhaust gas for the EGR, and the rear is blocked on all including the factory intake.

Re: HSR likes & dislikes...
ill quote this thread on the rear coolant passage:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/alte...r-coolant.html
and i will also state that the lack of EGR ports will lead to higher EGT's thus making the exhaust system lead to possible heat soaking of the engine bay. so yes, with ceramic coated long tubes and no egr, the intake does lead to over heating problems in my application.

Re: HSR likes & dislikes...
Wasnt trying to step on any toes, just pointing out that I had never seen rear water passages on any of my tpi bases(86,88,89) or any that I had powdercoated for friends( only two others). I am cuious what years did have them, and if it changed the cooling at all. I live in a hot climate and dont have any overheating issues when I had my stock or my HSR. As far as the egr goes I noticed a cooler intake charge from not routing hot exhaust gases thru the intake soaking it with heat. That is why this forum is so good because cars are similar but everyones setup is a little different and we can all see what worked for some and not others.

Re: HSR likes & dislikes...
kept blowing out plenum gaskets wasn't even running much boost
I used the 89 linkage no major issues but I flipped my fuel rail and made custom lines like the factory location

cons
to me to looks like a shoe box.. i think its ugly but thats just how i feel
i cant use my strut towerbrace because the manifold sits too high
plus i just love the flashy look of a tpi..

Re: HSR likes & dislikes...
the ease of install is a huge plus,,,,after dealing with a superram,,, but Ive heard that airflow is not great to the rear cylinders and they are tuff to tune on the top end

I like how when I pop the hood people still don't know what the heck they're looking at. So simple to install my sister can do it, awesome power for the price. I do miss the look of the old TPI though, there will never be such an exotic looking intake made again.

I love mine. No issues. And it feels great to make power to 6000 RPM.

I love everything about my HSR but replacing the cap and rotor is a PINTA, that's my only complaint.
