1987 IROC-Z made from Clay

I wanted to share this with the third gen community....but I didnt know where to post this. I'm an airbrush artist by trade, but I thought I'd try out my carving skills and I carved this little car out of clay, and then painted it with glazes. I had access to a kiln, so I couldn't think of anything cooler to make. It was a huge pain in the butt! It's about the size of a model car

Neat! Next one needs removable T-tops or functioning hood so you can get the cookies out.

Thanks! This was the 2nd one I did. First was a 2013 Camaro drag car, and the last one I did was a 4th gen ram air trans am pro mod.

What kinds of stuff do you sculpt??

1st car i tried. 2013 ZL1 drag car

Last one I made. 2002 Ram Air Trans Am drag car

I was pretty unhappy with the ZL1. Glazes just dont do what I had visioned in my head lol...
.cant do a color transition.

I worked on the trans am on and off for about 3 weeks.

That's pretty cool..

I had my Mom's car, a 1968 Jag commissioned in clay, presenting it to her 50 years after she bought it (she still had the cancelled check for the car). She was in tears.

Nice work. Put a plug in the underside and your ashes can rest in there.

Mostly statuettes and relief sculptures of Iron Maiden & Danzig type stuff.

(Danzig stuff)

I wasn't happy with the finish here. I was going for a bronze-ish finish, but this glaze turned out more like a gun metal color. And I didnt actually think the red glaze was going show up.

That is some nice sculpting work gents. I have some graphic art experience but need a computer to make it happen. I am also a big Maiden fan and designed a couple of concert shirts back in the day.I did these for my group of friends that went to a few shows together back in the day I had the honor to meet Nicko McBrain in my shop a year ago as I did some work for his BBQ joint. What a nice down to earth person.

Re: 1987 IROC-Z made from Clay

^^ Awesome ^^
You'd be hard pressed to find better rock musicians than Iron Maiden. Steve Harris has "best bassist" locked up for sure. Nicko McBrain is right up there on drums.

I discovered my natural talent for clay sculpture in high school. In high school, I had numerous sculptures and things that I made. Probably my favorite (and largest) piece was a 3D replica of the Powerslave {Egyptian Temple} album cover. Unfortunately, all that stuff was lost to the elements when I left home.
