Does any one know what the best way to clean the engine bay with out removing the engine?
Patience, patience, patience. Lot's of Simple Green, lots of elbow grease. Slowly take some things part and clean and or paint. I don't think there is an esy way. Hell I've got my engine out right now so I can clean and paint and it's not easy.

Yeap hes right. Its a pain in the butt, but worth it. I spent days doing mine. One day I started at 8am and ended at 5pm. I used everything from tooth pics to Q-tips. Now it spotless

Yep I spend a weekend cleaning my bay. I painted the intake, water pump, themostat housing, fender wells, MC, and every bracket. I also rerouted lots of wires and some hosing for a more professional look. The way I did it was I looked at my engine and replaced or cleaned everything that looked dirty. Don't forget hoses, they are very important when detailing your engine. You could go with steel braided if you have the money or if you keep the rubber ones. Use a tire shine on 'em to show that spearkle they had when they were new.

Yeah I figgured it would take a lot of time, I just wasn't sure on the what type of cleaner to use. The car has 173,000 miles on it soit pretty dirty in there. I cleaned some of the fender well off and the paint looks ok. So fortunetly I wont have to paint that part.
Use laundry detergent, the liquid kind of course. This was recommended by Vader and works really well, I think. I prefer the Mountain Fresh, but it's up to you.
. And occasionally I'll use Engine Brite.

Just use simple green and a little elbow grease. Then top it off with No Touch tire dressing..

my engine looks good...but the firewall and fender wells are in need of some TLC. just take your time, and clean everything. all it takes is a lot of work. rerouting the wires makes a huge difference. i got a ton of the blck corrugated slit loom tubing and redid everything. it's definitely the little things that count.
this picture is really old. since then, i have added a lot of things and cleaned it up even further. i have braided fuel lines, which dont have anything to do with "cleaning" the engine bay, but it looks a lot "cleaner".
but, like i said, i need to get the firewall and the fender wells taken care of. that i will tackle this spring....
