Removing the vents?
I have to take the dash vents out to clean them really good> How do they come out? I took a look at them, it seem as if there are clips on the sides? Can anyone help? Thanx.....

Never looked at it that closely, but are you trying to clean these with the dash pad still in the car? It might be safer to take the whole dash pad out of the car (all phillips' head screws underneath the dash lip, and 4 phillips' head screws between the defroster vents-don't drop 'em in!) instead of just taking the vents out. They're old and brittle by now, and you don't want to risk cracking them, OR the clips that hold them in!

I've taken the dash off before, I don't think you can get to them that way, I may be wrong? I'm talking about the center vents above the radio and the ones on the sides. Just windering if they pop out to clean them as best as possible/ thanx for the reply...:hail:
The ends of the vents have two little "posts" that come from the center and stick into a hole in the vent housing. The posts have are spring-loaded. Use a screwdriver to activate the posts and they'll come out. Doesn't take much pressure at all.

They're all easy to get out except the bottom vertical ones on either side, those were a pain in my azz to get out for some reason. Dont forget to pop out the ones on the dash and the ones on either side of the stereo! I also did the velcro trick so they stay where I put move them to, they used to alwayz fall down when I tried to level them out.

Just don't pry too hard. GM plastic is among the cheapest plastic in the known universe, and when it gets old, it has a tendancy to break if you give it dirty looks.

on firebirds on the outside vents, I remember them actually having to come out by removal of the dash, there were some 7mm screws back there... Of course I am talking about the assembly part of them housing and all... (Not sure if I could get to them by lookin straight down or from bottom up...)
