Any ideas on how to mod the overhead console?

Looking for pics or ideas to modify the overhead console. Mainly, something to replace the dials and the leather pocket.

someone made a plate for the different switches they needed that went in place of the dials. As far as the pocket thats where i stash my stereo remote. But yeah i'm gonna replace those dials with something cause i get the same stupid questions.

redraif did it but i don't like the switches she used.

well, look at what other cars have. Some have a display with outside temperature and an electronic compass in their overhead console.

I hated the switches myself... at the time that was all I could get my hands on... I have now gone to the round style with a simple dot led to let you know when they are on... Much cleaner... working on the swap over now... will have to post finished pics later... might be a while though we have been doing some performance and clean up on the engine bay, so that comes first!

The only problems, which is the same problem i am having with the switches, is space! There is not much room in the console and there is not much clearance in the roof. The wires going to my switches are making it hard to get the darn thing to mount!

The switches are actually controlling bout everything I have aftermarket on the car now... Nitrous, Kitt light, Interior neons, exterior neons, fog lights, strobes... so now I can have it all clean and uniform. Anything extra I can add back to the dash at a later date. I have been trying to rig the factory fog light switch to work my fog lights, but have not found the perfect combo just yet. Now that I have a bit more relay knowledge then before, I think I might get back on it! Then I will have an extra one i the roof for a Nitrous purge or bottle blanket! LOL!

haven't seen you post in awhile redraif good to know your still here.

as far as wanting a compass and stuff you should get one of these and try fitting it into place. Digital Car Compass and Indoor / Outdoor Thermometer

if i had the money to spare i'd try it.

i don't know how big the dial panel is though but there are loads of those things on the internet.

i have done this. used four rocker swithces. they do the following, from left to right:

1st: on/off toggle. toggles secondary fan.
1st LED: RED. on when 2nd fan is on

2nd: on/off toggle. Brake lights toggle. with switch "off" i have no brake lights when i press the pedal.
2ND LED: unused.. yet.

3rd: on/off toggle. tourqe converter lockup. with switch "on" my tourque converter locks.
3rd LED: was suposed to be for tourque converter but i wired it wrong, so nothing

4th: on Momentary. with switch held in "ON" position the brake lights come on. regardless of pedal position or 2nd toggle position.
4th LED: on whenever brake lights are on

I'm resurrecting this thread because I'm in the process of looking for a t-top overhead console. I'd like to remove the dials and put an outside air temp / direction digital gauge in its place. This was suggested above however I haven't seen anything yet that would fit the small-ish space. Plus I'd like the readout to be red numbers or red background with black numbers to match the red lighted interior of my Trans Am at night.

Anyone have any product suggestions? Any installation suggestions?

No product suggestions on the top of my head. Its an electronic circuit that wouldn't be too hard to build though, might even be schematics for it on the web. Need a temp sensor, some analog to digital convertor or equilvalent circuit, then use 7-segment red led displays as the output.

Re: Any ideas on how to mod the overhead console?

why would you want your brake lights to turn on by a switch? not to be rude just wondering, did a good job!
