Hawks 4th gen spoiler install question...

I've had this spoiler in my garage for a couple years. And I dont have install directions. Did they even come with them? Im mostly concerned with how to attach it to the hatch near the glass. The factory clips attached to the frame still (if they even come off). It also doesn't appear to be able to reach both sides at the same time unless I can somehow bend it or something. I'm confused as hell.

I also tried searching...but I suck so bad at it. I'd likely find a solution to cold fusion before the info I'm looking for.

in advance for any help you guys can offer.

If all else fails I'd give Bruce a call at Hawk's tomorrow and see if he can steer you in the right direction.

I tried that about a year ago before I gave up staring at it. He said it was a straight install. Perhaps another call this week will yield more answers.

I must be retarded. lol

not exactly a direct install.
I have one of those wings on my car and had to grind off the tabs from the window edge
and use the little tabs that came with the wing.
Once you have the factory tabs removed the wing should sit flat on the decklid.
I'm assuming you have the holes for the decklid all figured out?

Yeah...the holes on the decklid should be cake. Getting those "pillars" on the window was the part that had me baffled.

Thank you so much for the help on what to do with those tabs. I had been trying to figure out how to use them to mount the wing.

haha! no problem man. You still have all the hardware to attach that wing?
I remember reading about a couple other people here that made their own clips out of
some slightly heavier gauge metal?

The clips that came with my wing are holding up just fine.

yeah.. I have the hardware kit. Just have to see what a few of the parts are for. Like the long black plastic strips, etc.

If the (4) long black strips have a little 'nub' centered on them and a hole, they stick in the bolt holes of the wing. You sit the wing on the deck, center/align it and then tape the strips down. Take the wing back up (trying to not pull the black strips up with it) and they are your pilot hole markers for drilling the decklid.
At least.... that's what mine were for anyways...

I am curious to know about the hardware for the wing. I bought mine several years ago and it is installed on the car but mine did not come with any hardware. Mainly I am looking for the hardware for the pillars that go up the window and how to attach it to the window so it doesn't rattle while I drive. Any pics of these pieces would be helpful.

wow... you grind off the factory tabs... and its amazing. Like night and day. It fits right on there. Its one of the great moments were I realized that technology in the 1980's is > me.

And used those little plastics things as described. Brilliant. That sucker should be on tomorrow night. Just gotta drill the holes and pull the wire.

On the bottom side of the 'arms' of the wing (that run the glass), there was a small notch about 4-8" from the tip. It's tough to see if the wing is mounted but, you can see them.
There were (2) crappy little J-shaped clips supplied with my wing. Maybe 22-20ga metal at best. They attached to the wing with a simple #6 x 1/4" sheet metal screw.
Supposedly at the time, there was a change in who was making them (it's been to long for me to remember correctly now) but, the wing I received was not the best of quality. The biggest issue was it was slightly warped and the arms did not wrap the glass right and didn't sit flat either. The supplied clips didn't stand a chance to hold the arms where they needed to be.
I ended up just making some out of 18ga galv with a little more size to wrap the window frame.
The original clips were basically just a 3/8 wide strip bend into the shape of a 'J' to hook the glass.
I had to make mine a little beefier to hold the arms in place due to the slight warp.

Mine also came with a bag of mixed size screws. IIRC they are 1/4-20 but, don't hold me to that one. I ended up just going to Lowes and buying SS screws anyways.

Had the arms actually just laid on the glass like it was supposed to, I would have just stuck them with some 3M double face body tape.
