Window Travel Downwards

1984 T/A - Is there an adjustment to reduce the downward travel of the glass in the door? When I had the door trim off, I could find no method of adjustment. I want to reduce the travel in the driver's door.

Re: Window Travel Downwards

One question, why? You can move the stops, but not much.(And it may only be for the "up" position...for water leaks and adjustment to the roof, you might not be able to adjust for the down position at all)

If memory serves, they're an "L" shaped bracket on face of the inner shell, you will only be able to see a bolt with a 10mm head, and a groove with a tab. The actual bracket is inside with the window track. The tab grabs a corresponding tab mounted to the track or glass itself.

Re: Window Travel Downwards

The window should stop right after it reaches the top of the belt mouldin. If not, the rubber bump stop wchihch goes bad probably went bad and crumbled.

Re: Window Travel Downwards

#6 is the up stop for the rear part of the glass. Its just a small block that fits in that vertical guide and the roller in that guide slams into it once at full up. You could probably rig up something like that on the lower part of the guide to stop the window from going all the way down. This is from my 84 camaro FSM, so should be the same for your 84 bird.

Re: Window Travel Downwards

There are rubber tipped bumpers at the bottom of the window that rest on the inner door shell when down. Those are about always shot and let the window go down too far and really make noise when you shut the door with the window down. Couple posts on here on replacing those.

Nice breakdown of the guts. Is there a way to turn the pic 90°?

Much better. My neck thanks you.
P.S. I wish I had this picture last week, when I swapped out my window regulators. Would've been a big help.

Also instead of buying the OE lower bump stops use a brake shoe off a bike!

Re: Window Travel Downwards

There's a member that sells the rubber bump stops in the classified section. They always rot and crumble which lets the window drop too low. You will want to fix it before it chips the edge of the glass from the belt molding bolts hitting it. It's a simple install with a rivet once you get the old junk out.

Good to know. I'll need to check mine out, while the door panels are off. Wonder if he sells the feather seals on the window sills.
