I did some JL installs this weekend.

2 Camaros, and a Mustang.

Damn.
I hooked up 2 12 JL in a 91 Z28.
Ran them off of a Xtant 1001.D

Holy Sh*T.
I need to get some pictures.
I thought my brains were going to blow apart.

Other than that, it was a pretty good weekend.
What did you guys do to your systems.

Oh ya, guys, Hook me up and click on this link.
I need to gain some stats.

Jl's huh?
Which model? That's a hefty amp to run them off of, no doubt they rocked.

I just bought 2 JL 10-W0 -4's ... I dont want huge bass but nice and clear music and they said these were good subs for that. Only ? is which amp for these?

I wondered how long it would take before people started whoring outwar on this forum.

Anyway... back to JL. I'm yet another JL fan. They produce some of the best sounding subs around, and one thing I like about JL is that they never fell victim to the high-excursion high-power hype. They continued to produce good woofers without all the gimmics and didn't release a high excursion sub until they were able to do it right, and do it best.

I used to be a big fan.
At one point I had 3 pairs of 12 inch JL's. I put 2 pair ( W1's) in my dad's extra cab S10, it hit pretty hard. I took those out, got a big amp and 2 12 inch Kicker Solo-Barics and they pounded so hard i could bounce a quarter like 3 inches off the roof.

I put those solobarics in my camaro.

I sold the W1's and then built a killer box for my Dad's F250 show truck and hooked up 400 watts of PPI power to the last pair I had which were W4's or the equivalent to todays W3's I guess. They sound great, but nothing like Solobarics.

I think they are a great sub, but for the money you pay even for thier bottom of the line, better subs can be bought.

I have 2 Visonik 10's I bought new for $50 bucks a piece. Hooked up my line driver today to two PPI amps ( 300 watts bridged each) and wow. They sure do sound good for the money. they even pound harder than my buddies truck with 3 10 inch W0's in it.

It's always important to remember that the installation has as much (or more) of an effect on the final results as the subs. In a dB drag contest, my 2 12" Oz subs were over 2dB louder than a kid with 3 12" JLs in his truck.

Box design is crucial to good performance and sound quality.

I've been a fan of the JL W6 line. Take lots of power and sound very good. As a matter of fact, my friend had solobarics and ended up replacing them with W6s.

I have no idea why he did that, he must not have had enough power for the Solobarics then. They need a good 450 watts or so each. 2 12's will hit 147+ in a DB drag, that was years ago too.

Jim is not saying that my box design was wrong but that our cars can produce more SPL than trucks because of the way the passenger area is shaped and all. But normally, the less cubic footage in the passenger compartment the better, it gives more SPL.

Oh, he had power. He was using a Limited Ed. Phoenix Gold Outlaw amp. But you were comparing W1 and W4 to Solos. I was comparing W6s to the round solos. They are both good subs. It boils down to personal preference.

you cant really compare w1's and w4's to Solos. They are different class. If you wanna compare JL to Kicker, compare the L7 to the W7. I dont have a favorite, I like them both, but I have always been a big fan of JL. I always will be a big fan, as long as they keep their quality.

You mean to tell me you can't compare 4 12's ( JL's) to 2 12's ( Solos) ???

I think you can, most people would think that with adequate power to each setup the 4 12's should be louder.

BTW- I have round solobarics, not square.

Hey smart guy....I hope you are joking.

I don't only have 2 12 inch solobarics...I have 2 rockford 10's too, so good luck.

Anyway, the topic came up, so I replied. I have had much experience with JL's as I have had numerous pairs of them and I like Kicker Solobarics better.

i am serious, but i meant they beat so hard it hurts not that it would kill your subs beyond comparison, just that they are really good. Its enough to make you go deaf thats all i know.

I too like the JL Audio subs. I used to run 1 12W6 in my car.
I am going to run 1 or 2 8W6's now.

you are absolutely full of crap, a w7 would NOT outpound two well setup rockford 15s

people overlook the fact that the w7 is not an SPL woofer, it is a SQ woofer.

yes, it happens to hit hard. but for the money, you could get subs AND an amp that would hit much harder.

dont believe me?

go find some spl numbers for a w7 and ill get you some from systems costing much less that will destroy it.

how about this, a 5 year old rockford HE2 10 that hit 144db.

not bad for a 10?

or a single kicker l7 15 that hit 150? does that work for you?

his fosgates are not setup for spl, and his amp is under powerd.

and the subs he has are a few years old. i still believe even if he could afford a better amp and a good box one w7 setup right would hit harder than the 2 15's.

thanks

Rockford didn't make HE2s 5 years ago. 2000 or 2001 was the first year for those subs.

Anyway, it's easy to get high SPL out of a single sub if you set it up specifically for SPL. Build that box to have maximum output at the same frequency as the car's transfer function. Put it at the right distance to the mic that the port & sub are in phase at that frequency & distance, and burp the sub with a stupid amount of power. Result? Ridiculous output from a single sub. Too bad it's got such horrible sound quality that you couldn't possibly think of listening to music with it.

I've seen single 12" brahma subs do 156dB with a conventional sealed enclosure, and I don't doubt that a W7 could do very similarly. Is that going to always happen? Of course not. It's a combination of many unique events... just like when 5 year old rockford 10s hit 144 and when L7s hit 150dB.

no, but when people have better stuff then you, you always seem to find something to rip on it about it. And whenever, i do get a better amp i dont doubt that it will be better than the 1 JL w7
