plywood or MDF?
Oak is to porus which would be very bad. If you go with any non MDF wood use cabinet grade 7-9 layer plywood. Most people say birch but as long as it is a high grade which also means expensive you sould be ok. it is best to go with MDF as the density of the wood is consistant and the price is way better. Low grade plywoods have knots and hollow spaces in the lamenits and this could produce bad harmonics and vibration.

Axle/Gears: I should know this
I made my box out of High Densifty Fiberboard, i think thats what my dad called it.
It was just test box though, just so we could get the hang of making a custom box but... it doesnt sound to bad.
Anyone ever make a box out of the stuff?

Made my box for my Three L5's out of Birch.....MUCH MUCH lighter than MDF...BUT its hard on drill bits and saw blades...The advantage of it is it doesnt flex like cheap plywood...and its lighter(doesnt make the *** of the car squat). Disadvantage is price(unless your a manager at Lowes
