Current setup right now is Profile amp at 2 ohm (480 RMS but with gain not turned up more than half) into an Infinity 1042W (250 RMS, peak 1000)


I'd like to start planning/shopping for a bit bigger setup, something like two 10's or 12's. I'd prefer to keep my current amp, and simply buy another one, identical, and run each amp into it's own sub, at 2 ohm, so I need a 10 or 12 DVC 4 ohm, actually make it two subs *l*

Any Alpine subwoofers that would work with this ? Cheap ones ? Since I see so many on Ebay that are rather cheap. 50-75 bucks sometimes. Any other cheap but good SQ/SPL subwoofers you guys can recommend ? Kicker, Alpine, less "famous" brands that are good, but still cheap and which can be found real easily ?

I heard people talking about Assassin, Diamond Audio, Memphis ... would be nice if it was some subs which can be found plentyful and cheap, maybe I could get a hookup from someone at work or something, but I don't want to just hear the "You want two subs in a box for 150 bucks ?" and no details, just babble about "depends on what my buddy has in stock that day"

I believe the amp's peak power is not as high as 1000W, so I'm really wondering whether it would be enough to push an Alpine R. Should I aim for subs that can handle 400W RMS or 500W RMS ? Does the subs peak power handling matter, because the Profile amp will never push 1000W or so.

Just because a sub is a name brand it doesn't have to be expensive. Lightning audio makes some good inexpensive subs. Don't leave out Street Edge which was designed and built by the Fulmer company which is the same company that makes Memphis. Every now and then, you can pick up some Kicker L5's and L7's off ebay for less than 100 dollars each.

 

Well that's the problem though, I don't know which subs are good or not. Should I go for subs that take 400-450W RMS each ? Or should I go for 500W RMS subs ?

 

Type R's are great subs... A 1000W Profile amp would be plenty to push a pair of them. If you wanted more power from the amp you can "modify" it or simply reduce the ohm load... You have to be careful doing the latter as some amps don't like being played at 1 or a 1/2 ohm.

 

That could be a problem, my amp is 600W peak, and 480W RMS at 2 ohm, and it's supposedly not 1 ohm steady, so that wouldn't be enough to push the Type R's ?

Well i would agree with type r 12's. I have one in my big a$$ caddy and it sounds good. That and there about 100 bucks. Get two and a 1000 watt vpower and you'll have some good sounds for under 500. That's what I'll be doing when i get my new to me camaro.

 

OK, so two Type R's, each one fed by a msx600 amp should run rather good.. kewl
