Power Antenna Motor wont STOP

Just looking for a little guidance. I have the radio fuse pulled now because the motor wont stop running which of course kills battery. The antenna will neither go up or down and the motor is continuously running. I don't really want to spend the time to replace the motor and if there is a possible way to just cut the motor off without cutting off the entire radio system is my goal. If that still requires me having to go into where the motor is then i might as well replace the entire motor is my thinking. So after my rambling I guess my question is.. any safe shortcuts so that I can still listen to the radio?

Not sure of the year/make of your car, but yes there is a quick fix. There is a relay behind the passenger's side knee panel. Just unplug it and the antenna will stop.

Re: Power Antenna Motor wont STOP

Its not a full day job. When I had the same issue, it took me less than ten minutes to get to that relay. There are three screws on the bottom of the knee panel. Once those are out, the panel is pulled down and a little towards you. It will pop out pretty quickly. Then the relay should be right there in front of you. IIRC, it is the one on the left. It should have three wires coming out of it. They are white, green and gray. Pull the relay and the antenna stops running without affecting any of the other radio functions.

Re: Power Antenna Motor wont STOP

Headlights are a different issue. I suggest you start a new thread about that issue. Or better yet, do a search first. Some advice, be more detailed in your profile and in your issues. Knowing what year and model your car is can help immensely. Especially when you are asking about engine related issues. Perfect example; your headlights won't come on. Well, if you have a Firebird then there is the issue of the headlights coming up. So if that is the case, is it just them not popping up or are the lights themselves not coming on? If it is a Camaro, you have separate hi/low beams. Which ones aren't coming on? Like the stupid phrase goes, "help us help you".

Re: Power Antenna Motor wont STOP

I too have an '84 Trans Am, and I just started the headliner repair. I downgraded my power antenna to a stationary one. I'll know soon how well my new antenna works.

The pop-up headlight conundrum... It's most likely the isolation relay. It's part number 10022620, and it's not manufactured anymore. I read how to repair the relay on a Fiero enthusiast website, and it worked for me. Here is the Fiero website and my repair experience:

Re: Power Antenna Motor wont STOP

Thank you so much for this info! Just now did this on an 89 Firebird, Formula 350. Blizzard conditions in Colorado at the moment, antenna got stuck and the antenna motor wouldn't stop running - didn't want it to kill the battery. Thank you!!!

Re: Power Antenna Motor wont STOP

I had a similar problem with a 1990 Bonneville SSE. The plastic cord that is attached to the antenna to raise & lower, broke & motor kept running. Purchased a new power antenna & problem solved.
