I have 1000 dollars....what should I get ?
I have 1000 dollars to spend. I want to put a nice system in my 88 IROC-Z. Right now I have all the original speakers with two, eight inch subs spliced into the back 6x9 speakers. I want more.....what can or what do you suggest I get that will really get my car noticed with $1000.00 ?
i'm not a genius at all this audio stuff but i'll give it a shot... ok.. first off u need a head unit... that's at least $175 i'm guessing for a good one... mine was $220 with tax... warranty and everything... then i'm suggesting kick panels from DJSexay... $165... then go with a nice component set... **ditch dash and rear speakers!!** mine cost me $150 open box special... regular $250...
That's about $500 there... then you need subs... box... and amp... you go about building one yourself for cheap or check eBay... or order one. Mine was $145 with shipping off of eBay. Then you need subs and an amp. You can get some pretty nice subs for $150 and up. Watch around at Circuit City and Best Buy. They'll have a 2 for 1 deal about once every 2-3 weeks. I picked up to RF Punch 12's for $130. You can also get Kenwood's or Sony's or other brands. Last you need at least one amp. Amps run pretty high though if you are looking for competition type stuff. I'd check eBay and go around to all the audio shops you can to compare pricing. I am running two amps. **well not right now everythings not in my car at the moment** I have a RF Punch 100.2 for the component set.. and a Coustic 360W for the subs. I bet it sounds great once it's all installed. Good Luck!

Well I have a suggestion for a amp. On Ubid.com every once and a while you can get steals on amps. Check out the MA audio ones they are sweet for the money, I got a 300 x2 for $90 . And thats RMS, it hit hard.
They actually have one on sale right now here it is

go with Kick Panels... I have a Polk Audio Component set from Circuit City. sounded great with just the deck power and I'm hooking an amp up to it so I bet it will rock. But with $1000. I'd go with a Kicker sub or two. If I were you. I'd go with one square 12" solobaric with a really good amp. Rockford Fosgate makes great amps. Check Ubid.com and Ebay.com for amps you can get great deals.

I'd go with kicks too. If you are in a budget just run those speakers off the HU and then later you can buy a seperate amp for the kicks. For subs I would just go with one sub for now that way when you get more money you can add another. Don't get cheap on amps, go with a good company and expect to spend about twice as much on an amp as you do for each sub.

well if you're going to spend a G on speakers, I'm assuming you want your stuff to sounds really good (above average). First I would spend a little to dynamat certain parts of the car that rattle or vibrate (maybe goto the sounds shop, pretend you wanna pick up some insane stuff, like maybe 3 12's in an enclosure. then ask to demo it. have them put it into the car and then listen to where it rattles alot to find the areas you need to fix). than after all that (hahha!!) I would invest in a good car audio battery (optimus maybe?) and expect to get a CAP for your system. for speaker recommendations, I guess it all depends on what you listen to or what kind of effect you want. I know some guys that really like their high's and thats what they want people to hear from across the parking lot, others are into bass and they want ppl to hear them blocks away. if you want the best sound staging, I agree with everyone here, spend the money on a pair of kickpanels. then fill them with a good set of components (good companies are MB Quart, Polk, Boston Acoustics, or Infinity). If high's dont mean that much to you, then you could go with the lower end (but still good) speakers from kenwood/sony/ect. for your subs, it also depends on what you want. some people want others outside the car to hear them, others just want inside sound quality. I dont really know much about subs that are super loud cuz im an inside sound quality guy. you could prolly go with two JL audio 10w6's, or maybe a single jl audio 12w6 and a healthy amp. oh, and dont forget to get an amp for your high's cuz it really makes a difference (even on the $99 speakers).
I just got done doing a 'ghetto sounds' upgrade on my current camaro (only plan to keep it for another 6 months and didnt wanna spend more than $400). I got my subs from circuit city (two 12's for $100 deal), got my amp for $35 off an online auction (frgot the site) 200x2 rms, another amp 75x4rms for $50. Then I got a set of kenwood 4x6 plates for $32 and the 6x9's for $29 off ubid.com (add like $100 for shipping all the speakers and amps), and finally got my head unit from a friend for $99, its a lower model kenwood cd deck (not the lowest but almost there), but hey its better than my 1980's style alpine cd deck i got now. So i went a little over budget, but it sounds alot better than just the stock sounds + a cd deck.
good luck!! dont be afraid to go out to the sounds shops, flash ur $1000 and demo everything in the store. its the best way to get what you want.

"Honda's FOR ME TO POOP ON!" -Triumph... ok, that was horrible post. it took a crazy hawiaan to start to make some sense....
ok, where does it all start.... Head unit, your CD player is most important. becuase if you have bad sound, you have bad sound speakers, bad sound subs, bad sound amps...
so start at HU... (head unit)
from there, i can help you get a hold of a good alpine head unit, for 300 something, but its a 60x4 so you run your speakers off of it, unless you want to amp it, if you amp them, youll get more power, more clean music, but moreeeee cost.
then sub amp, and sub. wiring accessories. (www.justcaraudio.com) then dynamat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol....
ask yourself, what do you want. where do you want to go. seriously... you will prob need a new alternator... a new battery will help... later on maybe a cap...
i spent a 1000 on speakers alone bud...
any questions ?

"Honda's FOR ME TO POOP ON!" -Triumph... As everyone has said, it really depends on what you want from your system. With $1k, if you already have a head unit, I would spend about $400 for fronts + kicks, $300 - $350 for an amp (good stout 4 channel), $150 - $200 for a single sub, and around $100 for wires and stuff. That will get you some decent middle end stuff. With that amp run your seperates with channels 1 & 2, and bridge 3 & 4 on the sub. Dont cheap out on stuff though...you'll just want to replace it later. Get quality, not quantity. You'd probably be more satisified with a quality single sub behind a stout amp, then a pair of 'bargain buy 1 get 1 free' subs off a cheap '600 watt' amp.

So 88IROCZJG, tell us what kind of music you listen to? Are you more into highs or lows? Do you want to be LOUD or do you want good sound quality?? Tell us what kinda effect you wanna make and I'll recommend some speaker/amp combos under $1k.

I listen to rock mostly.....not heavy metal, more like incubus, bush, or fuel. Every once in a while I play a little rap. With my type of rock there isn't alot of bass but with rap, bass is everything. I want the loudest possible without sacrificing any quality. Any more suggestions ?
