im not a carb educated person, but I think you need to rebuild it, sounds like the float is stuck and just kinda POURS the gas in, you may want to replace the sparkplugs and let the engine dry out of excess fuel from the plug holes by leaving them out while rebuilding the carb. I also suggest changing the oil as it may be fuel saturated.

Sounds like you need to buy a book on Rochester carbs as well as make sure your choke is opening!!! Also as mentioned it very well could be your float is fuel saturated therefore no longer floats correctly or at all.

The choke is alright, I checked that after a long drive. But yeah, I should goto the junkyard and buy a carb and try rebuilding that one. sheesh

Try leaning out the mixture? Mine was guzzling gas too til I found out it was basically flooding lol. Leaned out the mixture with almost 8 full turns and now it sips gas without any adverse effects.

Thats the thing, I dont know how to do this "leaning" you speak of. if theres any chance can you take a pic of where this magical screw is? Cause im using gas for a joke

Filled up sunday, drove to school today, and back, now im down to 3/4 of a tank in a 35KM total drive

thanks alot

Oh yeah, if you cant take a pic is there anyway you can pinpoint to me where it is? Or if i take pictures of the carb?

back, passenger side. look for a "nipple" going back towards the firewall. it should be a hollow tube, in it is what looks like a fat flat blade screwdriver. use pliers to turn it.
"tighten" = lean
"loosen" = richer

hook up a vacuum gauge and set for max vacuum....
at the same time, note your vacuum, post it. then you'll know if you have a vacuum leak or something is funky...

$80 for a rebuilt kit? Are you sure you didn't buy a trick kit? Rebuilding a carb is not as hard as you may think. If you run into any problems the TGO guys give great advice.

Ahh good thing you mentioned that, I forgot to. That vacuum gauge will come in handy, we got mine to about 15 psi(i think thats how its rated) of vacuum and car runs nicely.

We adjusted mine in front of the carb facing the nose of the car. Needed a special adjustment tool (its like a wobbly screwdriver) and just found the right fitting and turned the screw. There should be some sort of hollow tunnel shaped thing in the front on the bottom of the carb. In there is the screw to adjust with

When you adjust it turn the scre in until you hear the car start to stumble then back out out about half a turn and your good to go.

It is FAST RS, dead center facing the nose of the car on the front.

And no problem, 83_Camaro_83. For all the help I received here, might as well give some of it back

the 4bbl idle mixture screws (two) are on the front. based on the picture I sent you, it (single) is on the back passenger side... but yea, that's '82.... and who really knows... you can buy a tool to adjust it for $20 at Napa, or $5 at princess auto (last I checked..) or use needle nose pliers if you're careful. the screw is capped by the factory however. if the carb has never been rebuilt, you will NOT be able to get at it. you have to cut/grind/file/drill to get at it. so if you can find it, great, adjust it, otherwise, get ready to rebuild. (but yea, i'd pick up a junkyard one to rebuild, in case you screw it up you can always put your factory one back on, at least the car will run...) plus you'll get a (most likely) good float on the junk one.

$50 rebuild kit and $25 float? you got ripped off. hope you kept the receipts. get another carb from the Pick-a-part and use the extra pieces. you'll need the kit for gaskets etc, but the float should be fine in your carb (those are pretty tough to get to fail...) and if you get a junkyard carb for $14 you'll get a float that most likely will work..

but yea, adjust your mixture. you can do it by ear (until it stumbles, then back a bit), or with a vacuum gauge if you have it.

vacuum gauge is in inches of mercury. not psi. you should get over 15 with stock cam etc.... I can only get 15" but I think I have a vacuum leak, extremly hard to start the car etc.... 17"-22" was what someone told me in my previous thread...
