Cooling issue

Just completed the serpentine belt conversion! Car runs at 220 all the time with fan running all the time. Hose from heater core are hot, vs hoses from.radiator are cool to touch and as if no pressure on top hose! Any idea what could be my problem? Thermostat, water pump, or possibly belt routed wrong? Thermo and water were.bought new when I did the conversion! I k ow even though parts are new, can still be bad parts! My car is an 87 305, carb!!!
TIA

Re: Cooling issue

Should I run the heater hose to the radiator instead of the waterpump like most serpentine set up are done! Just curious if that'd make a difference!

Re: Cooling issue

Looking up the part number on RockAuto, Gates 43114 is listed for a 1988. 1987 has a different part number. So, the water pump you have should be correct for a serpentine setup.

Are you running the backside (smooth side) of the belt over the water pump pulley?

Re: Cooling issue

I've chk the routing multiple times, and it's right! Maybe an air pocket. Imma get a new pump from parts store and a thermo!

Re: Cooling issue

An air pocket seems pretty unlikely....unless you simply didn't fill the system properly.

Re: Cooling issue

That's exactly how I have it routed! Imma change pump, thermostat and radiator/cap and see if that solves my problem

Re: Cooling issue

That is an 89’

Here’s a good thread discussing the different routings.

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tpi/...er-1992-a.html

Doesnt sound like that’s your issue though. Maybe the wrong water pump was in the package, or thermostat not working. Change both and go from there.
