305 TPI SD to 350 TPI MAF

Ok this is what i'm doing. I have a 1989 GTA with a 350 TPI MAF and I bought it wrecked for the motor and trans. I just found a 1991 Trans Am convertible with a locked up 305 TPI SD motor I bought cheap and I want the 350 in.

My question here is if I can use the 305 computer? I was going to get a cable to work with Datamaster since I have this spare Laptop I never use. And I like how Datamaster is set up and I really want to get into burning my own chips soon.

All suggestions welcome, i'm sure you have heard this one before.

Yes, you can use it. Just need to put a 350 SD MemCal in there and replace the knock sensor with a 350 SD Knock Sensor.

Memcal = dealer item(get it from a 92 350).
Knock Sensor = you can get it from any local advance auto or autozone.

The memcal is another name for the chip. You need a whole new chip.

Ah alright thanks alot guys. I'll need to limp around with the 350 chip for a bit till I figure out how to program my own. I'm having an LT4 HOT cam installed before the motor goes in. I would have one custom burned but I heard they are like 400 bucks and I would rather just figure out how to make my own. Well anyway I greatly appreciate the help.

I strongly suggest that you begin "playing" with the eprom while the car is as close to stock as possible. Even a stock engine can benefit from reprogramming as most of the calibrations from GM tend to be overly rich due to warranty reasons.

Once you have spent time learning on a basically stock engine, then it is easy to reprogram a modified engine. The worst time to try and learn eprom burning is when you NEED it done. Usually it is so overwhelming to a beginner because so many things have to be changed, and by a significant amount, that most just never get it right and give up in frustration.

Start as early as you can, its a LOT easier. And you will benefit by a better running engine too.

Glenn thanks alot for the advice, now that I think about it i'm sure it's going to be pretty hard to do. But! I have a spare Trans Am laying around.

1988 GTA Stock as they come so good idea i'll work with that one for a while and i'll probably just break down and shell out the cash for now to have someone else do the chip in my convertible.

I'm just too excited to get into this and get my other car done I don't think straight, it's a good thing you guys are around to help out.
