Confused

It's a little confusing around here with information from so many years scattered all over, and I have heavily used the search button.
So far I've gathered that it would probably be best to go with:

(all Moates)
Burn2 programmer
G2 Memory adapter
C2 SST 27SF512 Chip

I'm on a pretty damn tight budget, so are there any other ways to program EPROM's on the cheap without compromising performance and effectiveness?

Re: Confused

I went with all Moates stuff. And got the TunerProRT to handle all the programing. The support you can get on this site is second to none. There are pages and pages of info that will help you out. Plus the guys at Moates and TunerPro are really cool and always willing to help out.

Re: Confused

Looks like good stuff so I'll order them in a few weeks. Do we have a group buy program here on TGO?
If anybody has alternative solutions that would hurt my pocket less I'm definitely open to them (or stuff they want to sell... not tuned chips)

I got a good laugh out of:

"My name here is Ron because my car is Burgundy"

I was wondering what your name would be if you car was a different color!

Well, if it was Red, my name would be Foreman

Going back to the subject, I saw this on Ebay and I'm thinking I'll get it. They say it programs the GM OBD1 EPROMS from moates (I forget the exact number, but it's listed).
http://www.ebay.com/itm/top853-USB-u...ht_6567wt_1037

I figure that it'll run me in total
$45(programmer) + $30(adapter) +$5(one chip)+$5(shipping)= $95

I'm guessing one chip should be fine since I'm supposed to get at least 1000 or so burns out of it

Re: Confused

I looked around on the web and couldn't find any reviews on this unit. Are you sure this will burn the right chip for our cars. Just make sure you do your research so that you don't end up spending more in the long run.

Re: Confused

They accept returns within 30 days so I could stand biting a small return shipping cost bullet if it doesn't, but I have found one. Lots of Honda guys seem to be using it too

Even if you go past the return time Im sure you could flip it to a Honda guy. The price is definitly right.

Re: Confused

Well the Moates stuff came in- he's really fast with that stuff.
Now I have some tough questions that are probably more for guys on this forum.
First, here's my thread logging my progress https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tbi/...ld-thread.html

My engine plan is: LT1 Cam, Comp Cam valvesprings, ported stock heads, Hedman Hedders 1 5/8" to 3" collectors with 3" y-pipe back with a Glasspack, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, A/C and smog delete, new gaskets all around.

What I'm hearing is that I really should go with EBL Flash, but I really don't want to spend that much money. As far as I know, Caprice cop car 65 lb/hr injectors paired with a raise in FP to 15psi should approximately meet the requirements of my engine, but I don't want to cut myself short (I already know about the slow read rates, etc. I'm fine with all that). Can I work with EPROMs and the stock ECM and still have a decent engine? And if so, how should I do this?

Re: Confused

Well at least you came to you senses and got a great product from a great company that developes and supports this hobby.

That last burner is a cheap knockoff from china of the Willem GQ 4x which is about double that price.

You'll be fine now with good equiptment.

Heh, I bought the chip and adapter from Moates but I did get the Chinese burner. I'd have gotten the Burn2, but I couldn't justify the $40 price difference like I could with my cam- it cost $10 more than I could have gotten one for, but I bought it from a reputable member of TGO.
I'm also making a small donation to TunerPro today in hopes of appeasing Carma...

I'm just trying to figure out the logistics of fuel injection and what I'll need to buy/modify- could you specify how I should do this?

Re: Confused

Hopefully that knock off burner supports the 27SF512 chips....
They need a rather unique programming voltage.

Re: Confused

It does, I checked for that. If it gets here and doesn't work I can probably get a full refund including shipping costs

Anyone have a fuel system setup recommendation that can properly support my engine modifications?

Re: Confused

You have to program it yourself. It comes with the stock tunes, but you're going to have to tune it in order to accommodate your modifications

I agree with the habit forming! I think im addicted to tuning and ive only been datalogging and burning chips for one week but constantly make time to play with tunerpro.... Best of luck to your tuning as it is fun but very time consuming!

Re: Confused

Never got a chance to try it, ended up getting a killer deal on a used EBL unit. Selling the whole setup for TBI PROM burning (programmer, adapter, chip) for $80 shipped if anybody's interested haha

Answers in stickies DIY-PROM or "tune free" in TBI stickies.

Also go to dynamicefi.com and see intro to tuning 1 + 2

Thanks, but IDK if you read my most recent posts- I'm pretty much set now. I have EBL Flash, modded my FPR to make it vacuum referenced, and bought an adapter plate. Rob's "how-to" sure came in handy, too

Someone should really update and consolidate the information/stickies on this forum- so much of it is outdated that it's hard for the poor PROM tuner to find out what to do.

"Poor PROM tuner"? As in the tuner who is on a budget, or the tuner who is struggling with a lot of unanswered questions?

I noticed that when I posted but I had to go to class.

I guess you could apply it to both. Those who tune PROMs generally don't have as much money (I could have done it all for less than $100) and it's still somewhat hard to find info on here.

Oh hey fasteddie, sorry I forgot to get back to you about that programming set. Craig never got back to me but I doubt the leg spacing on the TBI adapter chip will fit the MFPI setup in the V6. If I'm wrong someone please correct me

Hah, I guess so. I meant no offense at all, as I'm in that "broke" bracket myself (and will be for the next 5 years)
